Say whaaaaaaaat. Nee koot....there was enough sand to redo ballito beach twice over.

I must say, the variety of terrain was exceptional....there were

Rocky downs

Rocky ups

Singletrack

Concrete

Mowed grass

Mowed sand

Mowed rocks

Bloodied rocks

District ups

District downs

District flats

Soft cool grass under the tents at the end

A mate of mine is in hi-care ,he was moved from ICU at Unitas today, the details are all vague to me but I follow the updates as his wife posts on his Facebook wall.

Seems he was the bad crash everyone is referring to.

Jis man! Stuur vir hom sterkte aan! Hoop hy is gou weer op die saal.

Thug always ask me if I plan to return when he sees me with my big Camelpack . But at the Monster I first helped a dude to replace a tube (one tube gone) , then I found a gentleman lying under a tree as sick as a dog . Out come the ouch-pouch and I give him a few pills . After the farmhouse another breakdown , rear caliper lost a bolt , cable tie , then at the Tower Climb , lady with chain problems . Luckily she had her own spares but it was all in the back pack . Funny thing is I have never put a bladder for water or brandy into my back pack . That how we roll .

I have the same issue, I have half of Linden Cycles in my backpack most of the time, for the monster I packed a first aid kit, reccon I should leave it there... Good on you man!

Well done on doing the ride with the SS. What ratio are you guys running for a race like this?

Thanks! Gerkie had a 34/18 going on his 26" if I'm not mistaken, Divernick had a 32/19 on his 29'' and I had a 32/20 on my 29''.

Sorry for the hijack...

I met two guys (also hubbers) at the bottom of the first big climb whos derailleur broke- we tried converting to a single speed but as soon as the oke peddled hard the chain sucked into the next "bigger ring" at the back. For future reference, what is the trick to converting to single speed en route?

Go for Groot Marico.Great race in a small town.Ladies and gents were wearing thier 1820 settler outfits and brewing coffee on a wood fire early in the morning. Not congested like the big races. The last time I did that race my madel was one of the terrain pebble stones.Great vibe.Quite tough aswell but nothing like the monster.
