I think the law isn't good or bad. It's pointless. The commuting worker can't afford in the region of R1000 for a lid, and the law isn't enforced.

The last time I checked, the commuting worker couldn't afford weeks in a hospital either. Some sort of protection for the pip, even those GAME helmets which are so often worn back to front, are better than nothing...

It's a hard spend when you're living on the breadline, though. It would be nice if hubbers helped out by donating their old helmets.

Took this pic yesterday in umhlanga. This guy eventually got on the m4 and rode towards town.

At 5pm.

Silly guy.

Must be some re-inforced straps on the cap for it to be tight enough not to blow off...

After being back in SA for 6 months I have realized that robots seem optional, and if you do stop, creeping forward is the thing to do for some reason. Also, I suppose it's hard to keep an eye on the robot when you are texting or emailing or checking Facebook on your phone, as so many people seem to do.

Or TheHub

I am not convinced its an afordability issue for all the commuter guys. I have given my gardener 2 helmets already. He still rides without it. For some it just doesn't matter.

Stupidity knows no bounds. Saw a cyclist this morning on his bike in the Mother City with no helmet. I blasted my hooter at him and pointed to my head to mean his helmet. He gave me the finger. Idiot.

It's not that. It's an education thing. Why don't you talk to your gardener maybe show him the pictures posted here.

I have discussed it with him. He has even been in an accident before where her got pretty injured. Its his choice not to wear it!

TBH, I would have flipped the bird too. If you want to instruct random strangers what to do, expect an obnoxious response.

We have all done or seen cyclists do stupid things in the traffic, whether intentionally or negligently. Road users have to accept accidents can and do happen despite our best efforts. I believe that whether or not a cyclist wears his/her helmet is that cyclist's choice and I am more than willing to let him/her permanently remove himself/herself from the gene pool. I will however be very upset if I should be an unfortunate party to a road accident where the cyclist dies or is seriously injured where such death or serious injury could have been avoided by the wearing of a helmet.
