Anyone here have any experience with hydro/Aquaponics and have any tips and tricks to share? My 12 year old needs to build a vertical farm for a school project, so we’ve decided rather than planting in boxes arranged on top of each other, we’re going to build a system with PVC pipe.

Will post some pics as we progress!

how much time do you have? for aquaponics you will need at least 6 weeks between introducing your fish and planting your veg. this is for the various bacteria that freak down the ammonia to form. if you are time limited rather do hydro ponics

I actually would like to do a pool/garden aqauponic system. But I see that when the system crashes, its bad.

i have been running a small aquaponics set up for close on 3 years now. I have actually stopped even testing the water. All i do is feed the fish and fill it up with rain water every now and then and it works perfectly.

i think if you go on a commercial scale you could have issues because you are overstocking your fish, but for me i use Koi and tilapia and i am not harvesting them so its all good

In my mind, in my future house, I have already planned it in my mind. Not sure how happy everyone will be swiming in a pool with fish but I’ll cross that brige when I get there.

What size is your system?

What pumps are you using?

You can keep the fish separate as well.

I have been looking at natural pools that use various water plants as filteration. I would like to incorporate an aquaponics system with it. I would like to use pond liners.
