First Tokai MTB AGM

It was so simple back in the day, just go and ride. None of this EMP this an rationalisation that. And people wonder why illegal trails get built. I totally umderstand that this process has to be followed for ecological and sustainability reasons, but I sure miss being 16 years old and bombing down any old piece of dirt trail I could find.

Life should be simpler. Don't feel alone. Only, I miss being 21 for reasons I can't explain here :D

That's not what I have suggested. The EMP is a very different document with a different purpose to a Trail Management Agreement. EMP is not going to dictate where and how trails are built. It will dictate that the particular conditions specific to each landowner/s concerned are respected and adhered to. Perhaps if we had a strong, more specific Trail Management Agreement drawn up, showing SANParks we actually want to build trails in a responsible manner, we may be able to get a bit more leeway than we have seen to date. I suspect that many of the riders would also like to be able to refer to something more tangible, giving them a better sense of what the deal is.

This really is a different discussion though and either belongs off-list or at least on a different thread....

The gist of this thread is, and should remain, that we have elections coming up and that anybody who cares about Tokai has an opportunity to play a role in shaping the future.

It's not isolated and it's not a process that is steered by us. Specialists need to be appointed/tendered for the job and they will perform a study based on what is existing and what the requirements for the park are now that the landscape is changing. Why are you telling me what you think the process is?

Honestly dude I'd rather keep that discussion between you and I. It would be too easy for people on here to misinterpret my intent and we all get dragged down a Deon vs Duane fight. I think we are both good guys who both love Tokai and would love to see it be what it rightfully deserves to be. I've allowed myself to get carried away with my emotions before and said some things that I've regretted and I'd like to keep away from that.

As far as the offer of accounting services goes that offer stands and as I've stated it's only condition is that TokaiMTB register as a non profit. I think freebie work for NPO's is a tax deductible expense for my company. I'm also pretty sure we can find a Mountain Biker/Auditor to audit the financials for us. Notice I said Mountain Biker/Auditor not Auditor/Mountain Biker

BTW as far as I know it is a SARS requirement for all NPO's have audited financials.

Duane, I ask because you guys bailed while I was getting the info on what is best for the entity in terms of reporting. VA vs NPC.

VA is the route I will be taking and this was approved by the funding group in August. Of course the application is on hold until I know the fate of this process. No point launching a fundraiser amidst this negativity difference of opinion.

I do have accountants set for auditing. The offer was made to have this cost covered, but no reason why we can't still chat.

If you want to discuss other issues offline I am open to it.. we could be back to business as usual..

  • And anyone else who I've left out or wants to join but lets make it less than 20.

Let's get together on Wednesday night at Jakes. Say 7pm? Johno, Vince, Richard and I will be there. Let's get together over a beers and talk. There's more common ground between us than you might think. Let's clear the air and find that common ground. This back & forth on an internet forum achieves very little.

We don't want to look like tools in front of Sanparks.

We ACTUALLY all want exactly the same thing

There is no hidden agenda

I know that most of you are volunteer builders and speaking from experience it's heart breaking when someone pisses on your efforts so I can fully sympathize with your emotions. I've been on that side of the fence myself. And those feelings do need addressing.

Rika you come too.

I am willing. And I can make Wednesday.

Face to face is always best, but I do think a forum like this is very valuable to get things out in the open and not to let it become deals behind closed doors or behind peoples' backs. I would insist on an honest report back for everyone to see here and on Facebook after the meeting.

I'm afraid I can't make Wednesday or Thursday... work commitments that were made a while back...

Chills. There will be a report back.

It's going to be a bunch of mates and potential mates talking about the mountain we all love. With a beer or 2 thrown in for good measure.
