Worst Cycling Purchase

It's not the fault of the tyre if you use them in the wrong application. I use Mountain King up front and Race King at the back and they suit my environment perfectly.

This is a thread about worst purchases... no one asked did you buy the correct item for the job or anything like that - which is actually quite true in a lot of the stories (the bike came stock with it in any case).

And i dont have money for mountain kings at the moment.

In addition, It is quite obvious that i know in what terrain it doesnt work (out of experience, noted)

I take offence to your assumptious post.

You have posted a couple of times on mistakes you made. Is the thread part of the healing process? Hopefully your recent purchase is a good one, hint.

Haha, yeah, made a couple of not so well thought out purchases before! Part of the learning process.

In case others are wondering, I bought a BB spanner a while back, and while it works it's a bit of a pain to use seeing that you can't keep turning it, but have to keep on taking it off to make make the next turn. Purchased a BB tool socket from Cippo and that should be quicker and easier to use with a ratchet handle attached to it.

Yeah, my preference as well. It's nice not to have to reach down for the bottle, but I don't like the camelbak on my back and it's less trouble keeping the bottles clean. I might use it again for longer rides as my bike only has space for 1 bottle.

I also prefer bottles but my new bike only takes one as well. Don't have a problem carrying a camelback but I agree, it's a mission to keep clean.

Heavy, badly made and generally just crap. In my defence, I had just started cycling and knew nothing about brands etc.

Actually got a pair under my desk, have to agree they are crap...I'm more in road biking, once I put on my road bike goodies it just seems way better...

+1 for the cheap pump. The sik k@k forced me to walk. GKisDK.

I am still trying to decide whether buying a Specialized Rockhopper 29er HT was the worst purchase ever, thinking that I would only ride a little here and there and a bit on road and a bit offroad. Nothing wrong with the bike but I seem to spend more time on trails after only a few months of cycling. So possibly should have invested in a higher spec.

If hubbers can point me in the direction of the 26er vs 29er debates that have gone on and the type of bike choice for the various tracks/trails that may help going forward.

I have a pair of those Olympic shoes. They are a bit heavy, but they're comfy for me and have lasted more than 3 years now. The soles don't have any grip on rocks though... my next pair of shoes must have nice grippy rubber soles.

My first and only set of Mtb shoes I purchased 7 years ago were Olympics. Still going strong, not a days trouble.

My worst Cycling related purchase!?

The Raleigh M-Trax "Dual Suspension" Mtb I bought from a friend when I started cycling. R500.00 worth of crap. :cursing: Could not sell it, eventually gave it to one of my workers. Had to sweeten the deal by giving him some extras such as a Helmet, extra tubes, pump, etc. :whistling:

A friend bought a similar POS, said it was the only bike he had to pedal on the downhills!

And he was so chuffed he had bought a DS for around R1000!

Little did he know.......

No one buys 26" anymore. Do they even make those still???

is it all conti race kings you are talking about or just the cheaper versions? I've been using them for the last 2 years both 26 and 29 and i love them! using the protection version

29" protection. Sidewalls didn't last 1 year. Apart from the sidewall eating itself..probably had two thirds of my total fall count with a race king on the front. Loose over hard pack? Nooit weer nie.
