Bicycle Supply Chain Posted February 5, 2014 Share Seat post and stem will be lighter in ally compared to the carbon counterpart. My bike: SAVE cannondale post 250gr, KCNC ally 180gr Bars can be lightened as some carbon bars are over 200gr. a decent one will be in the 130-160gr mark saddle? deceptive how these weigh up. my old gobi was 280gr compared to the more normal 150-180gr of today like SI SLR XC, Phenom etc. Wheels, I save 350gr on my wheel set. mostly in the rim/ spoke choice so on the above you could look at saving around 210-550gr But you looking at R5k plus for that

DJ84 Posted February 5, 2014 Share if it feels heavier when picking it up then as everyone suggested.1x10 drops weight quick and cheap. if it feels heavier on the ride maybe check your bearings,or you just tired and don't realise it(can happen when on a strict diet)
droo Posted February 5, 2014 Share Raceface Next SL crankset. Enve rims on Tune hubs. Tune Speed Needle seatpost. Raceface Next carbon bars. XX1. Tubbies. Be prepared to refinance your house though, this sort of stuff's not cheap. Stay away from Ti bolt kits, anything KCNC, drilling holes in stuff and removing "unnecessary" bolts (I've heard of guys running 3 brake rotor bolts to save a few grams. Darwin, your phone's ringing...) Or just train harder. Sub 11 kg isn't bad for a MTB, just get the legs working properly. If you're trying to build a lighter bike than a mate of yours, it'll become a race to the bottom pretty quickly. If you're strong enough to drop him on a bike that's 2kg heavier, he'll be far more annoyed than if your bike's 5g lighter than his. If it's just an exercise to see how light you can go, check out the weight weenies forum on MTBR. Plenty of advice in there.
TALUS Posted February 5, 2014 Share Weigh your bike - it DID NOT become heavier!! Now relax and go and buy beer with the money I have saved you. The case you owe me must preferably be Erdinger Weiss Beer. Izak
Let's Ride Posted February 5, 2014 Share Train train train. You see guys on the oldest and heaviest bicycles coming in the top 20 or so in races. If they can do it you can. Train harder. Trying to lose weight on a bicycle is very expensive and hardly worth it. Either way good luck and enjoy the freedom. karlito
Nimby Posted February 5, 2014 Share How much do you weigh? If over 90kg's don't even bother with saving even a kg on your bike - it's not worth the Rands... Li Mu Bai, karlito and Izak

Izak Posted February 6, 2014 Share What everyone else said....I lost two bikes' weight in the last 9 months and have not felt faster and better on the bike ever.I did reward myself with a sub 11kg 650B but if I want to break 10kg it will probably cost me at least another 10K so really not worth it.If you have extra weight to shed rather do that. You will feel better about yourself and be a much better cyclist!

Carbon cranks, Ceramic BB, 11 speed Hi, Thanks for this, never knew this.... Would my rear derailleur be compatible as I dont have that exact model, mine is: Shimano XT Shadow Plus, 10-speed, SGS long cage Regarding the cassette upgrade, so those are additional gears which add to your existing cassette?? Lastly anyway to confirm that the front chain ring is compatible with my crankset: Custom SRAM S-1250, 7050 alloy arms, 10-speed XC double, PF30 spindle, 175 Thanks again, this is a light at the end of the tunnel...
