Super bleak was part of the accident in LL 12km in was hanging back to help a friend...one guy allen has a broken leg and is in surgery atm, another guy dislocated shoulder, and another friends bike is written off...I escaped with a buckled front tire after bunny hoping over one of the guys...hope the badly injured are all ok! P.S took 30min for an ambulance to arrive and anuda 20min to get him on it,I'm no expert but being that close to the start it shud not take that long!

Pro ladies had a big crash 2km before the finish. One lady gone to hospital. Few couldnt finish. A few high speed crashes in AL. Two in last 15km. STRONGS to all involved. May you heal quickly and completely!

Jeez hope everyone is ok after all the crashes. The road surface was a joke. I had my first puncture at 25km in, with the VA bunch. Got a free ride with the VB's (daai 40+ manne kan trap) just to hit a pothole on 92ks. My ride done!

I rode in BL. The guys riding in the oncoming lane, and then just joining the group caused at least one accident.

All but one BL crash happened behind me. The sound of bikes crashing still sends shivers up my spine.

A guy hit a cone in just in front and to the right of me, and he came down, with his bike just going in front of my front wheel. No time to bunny hop, but landed up riding over his bike and nearly coming off myself. Possible the save of the day.

On a side note, which idiot thought it would be a good idea to have large orange cones at a cycle race where the groups are big, and only the first few guys see them.

But an excellent ride coming in abou 3.03ish.

Here's wishing a speedy recovery to all those who were involved in what seems to be a lot of crashes this morning.

Things were more controlled in the VB group. I don't think there was even a stray bottle flying out as we went over the rumble strips, which is a first. I bumped shoulders with one of the riders, and heading back a stray cone jumped out in front of me, but that was all the excitement I had for the day. Happy with my 2h50, but not ecstatic about being caught napping about 30km from the finish, when a 15-20 man group broke away. On the bright side, I got some good training in for the Argus trying to reel them in.

I am still trying to breathe and relax. I got VERY pissed off today - all of it by cyclists! What do you think if you go down the right of the group, while ignoring the marshall, then only go halfway down the group and sit on the right until a truck comes. Then you want to force back into the bunch - there is no space!!! This happened many times. Also you cannot hold 2 or 3 wheels by switching all the time. After today I am dreading the thought of the Argus. Def cant wait to get stuck in to MTB again.

This was a stupid stupid idea! At the beginning but especially at the end. Trying to pass 62km riders and dealing with cones was a bit of a nightmare. Overall better than last year.

Managed to keep it upright and come in 3h06 from CL. If the guys pushed for the first half, we could easily have dipped below 3.

The cones were just insane. In AL going out, no one was actually sure should we be riding in the yellow lane on the right within the cones, or to the left of them into the oncoming traffic, or all the way across on the correct left hand side of the road. madness. then coming back when AL merged with the slow fun riders, there were cars being let through into the face of the now agitated and sprinting AL bunch, who were trying to dodge the funriders and the cones.

I hit a cone, thank goodness for mtb racing is all I can say, as I managed to stay upright after an insane wobble.

Was tough. A bit of wind, and a bit slow and negative at the halfway mark, many crashes and some intolerance with allowing others to slip into a gap.

not great, the road surface seems to get worse all the time. even rode off the verge into the red sand at one point haha - nuts.

From the comments it seems the following analogies might be applicable:

Smooth, fast, less technical rides on artificial surfaces can be associated with a higher frequency of severe injries and a lot of pain.

Rough, slow, technical rides on natural surfaces can be associated with less severe injuries and more fun.

Now for the comments......tuck and roll.....in the dirt.

(PS: Hope everyone had an awesome cycling weekend.....smiley Ninja face)
