Might be my 1st deal gone bad from the hub. Bought a pair of Easton EA90 Aero wheels from a hubber 1 Feb. Only fitted tires on the wheels 6 Feb. Took them out for the 1st maiden voyage but wheels felt strange almost like a stone is stuck on the tire.

I did not hit a pothole or anything like that. When I got home I notice the rim is not true so I send a sms, voice mail and a pm to the buyer informing him of the wheel that is not straight. I asked him if I can send the wheel to Omnico to have it check out and trued and if he would cover the cost. Last time this happen I had to replace a rear rim on 90 SLX which cost me an extra R1600 and can not afford a setback like this again.

Until now there is no reply from the hubber but he did access his whatsapp on Sunday. I don't know how many people don't look at their cell phones for a whole weekend.

At what time do you name and shame a hubber?

Why not just true the wheel if that is the problem....

a crack in the rim would have been a different story. Unfortunately purchases on thehub are voetstoots. If you wanted new and pristine, you should have bought new. Not a dig at you btw.

The EA90 SLX rim was bend and I had to replace them at R1600 (wheel was send to Omnico) for my account. My local LBS tried to true the SLX and said al was find but LBS won't cover a new rim. I asked him if he would cover the courier cost. If the rim needs to be replace we must talk but can't get a reply from him. If I knew I had to pay another R1600 I would not take the wheel set.

I agree but buying a new wheel set and replacing a rim is like buy a bike and replacing the frame.

Ive just sold a set of rims to a guy and showed him all was 100% when he collected them... I suppose thats a benefit of physically seeing before you buy.

Spun the wheels in his hand so he can see they are true and that the bearings are in perfect condition still.

For R100 I would just true the wheel and carry on with my life ..

My 2cents worth

To replace a rim is R1600 and paying 70% of a new set isn't a good deal. It is a no deal at all.

I did that but you can only see it if the wheel fitted on the bike. I don't mind a few chips here and there but the hubber doesn't reply. Makes me wonder what is actually the problem.

sure but that is worst case scenario, which it doesn't sound like it is....100 bucks true at lbs should sort it out and will eliminate all guesswork. That would be my first port of call

If the Seller promised a good condition wheel and the wheel was not true, then he was dishonest.

I would try to get hold of him for about 7 days, then start naming the Seller if you felt justified.

Ja it is the danger of purchasing when someone has to ship...me personally, only deal with people over 200 posts and in gauteng, no matter how good the deal is.

I bought some hoops from someone in Pretoria.

Asked another HubSA member to go check it out for me. I was so thankful.

Buying 2nd hand hoops can get tricky.

The OP also waited a while before checking out the wheels.

Used them as well. Then reported the fault.

Not blaming Zatek; just saying how difficult it can be to place responsibility.

Think when buying something expensive get friend or bike shop to check them out, did that when getting my wheels from cape town. Also in fairness to sellers one must inspect stuff when you get it, and raise issues immediately.
