Last year I was lucky enough to start in B group. Had a guy in the same group that road a 3:45 Argus road. They used that time to seed him. He really chopped off and road a 6+hour. No bad luck at all, just could`nt climb.

Yes I think this is exactly it. A lot of roadies doing the K2C based on their Argus times, and then taking strain on the hills.

anyone else taking on the Dr Evil from Thurs / Fri & Sat leading into Sunday's K2C ? ... holding thumbs for a four day window in the weather where the wind is always at the back :whistling:

Yip I am also in. The best part is, she entered us

Ja, I wish, although I did start too fast and paid the price during the 2nd half.

So maybe that's why they were seeded better than you, they knew how to pace themselves :whistling:

But seriously, given all the comments I have no idea how fast I should start or not, guess I'm just gonna wing it on the day.

Thought the total amount of climbing is similar? About 1500m. I guess the biggest difference is that the Argus have the long flat sections where you can recover.

Taking a break this year but will hopefully do it again next year. I've done 2 at just over 5hrs want to try for 4:30. Will definitely start a bit slower and leave something in the tank for the end. The K2C has very few flat sections, you are either going up or you are going down and the downs are over too quick for you to recover for the next up.

Good luck.

Argus has 900 odd meters of climb, and its smooth tar for easier rolling.

i am riding my first.survival for me.using it as a long training ride leading up to 70.3 and the full IM later.have been riding steadily the last few months with nothing earth shattering

Not to be a drip but I'm getting concerned about the weather on the saturday and sunday... Seems acuweather shows a bit of rain coming our way. Normally would not be a worry but sleeping in tents it could pose an issue.. Any weather gurus out there that can ease my mind???

How accurate is Accuweather 3 weeks predictions? I would be more concerned about potential rain in the days leading up to the event than some rain on the day

Not sure about the accuracy so I'm hoping someone here is an undercover weather man :whistling:

Just not feeling like sleeping in mud the night before riding a 100k's.

my plan is to spend as much time in the saddle as possible.one way to work on the feeding plans for IM.Been doing steady 2x90 min trainer rides and a 4 hour ride over the weekend for the last few months.contermans phillidelphia malanshoogte type of riding.dont like riding in the rain though so holding thumbs for clear weather.

Hi Merida

IMHO I don't really tend to look at weather forecasts that far in advance. Its basically computer models trying to predict what certain airmasses would do for the forecasted time so changes are likely to occur. I'm in the aviation industry so we use met reports quite often and really only tend to look at forecast 3-4 days in advance and even then changes might happen. I guess what I'm trying to say is, we'll have to wait and see... ;)

As noted before I'm also in the K2C "survival" group. Doing my best to get time in the saddle but we all know how work and other commitments tend to interfere. I'm trying to focus more on the climbing than the distance in my training but I guess that day its a combination of the two...
