Yes, looks like there might be wind. The problem that I have is that it is my 13 year old boy's first one, and although he is no noob on a bike, he is light at 45kgs and might be wasted by the time we get to Smits. Yesterday we cycled back home from Rooi-Els to Strand against the NW and he was tired when we got home. So, what call to make when the wind does pump? Dissappoint him or let him suffer?

ride with him if you can. will make anything he goes through easier and great to have his hero with him.

Yes, that is the plan. I am still praying for some light wind and a cool day. A SW or SE of up to 15 knots is OK. I am starting in the PC group with him, so there will be no big groups to hide in from the wind. We all know in the later groups it is every poor bugger for himself. I doubt we will be able to organise a group of 10 or more to work into the wind.

The wind will all depend on how fast that front is that is gonna come through on Friday/Saturday, and how big it will be. At least we will have a much cooler day than the previous 2 years, which is some small mercy for us starting after 9.

Not as gungho (read "fit") as I was last year, so don't really care about the weather too much. Sunday I'm gonna take regular pitstops, water breaks and chat up the pretty girls. This year it's all about the enjoyment factor for me. Next year I'll ramp up the pace again.
