Any news on the mtb race, nothing on the site or the web about it, and was planning to do both this year
I've come across a page on Racetec saying its the 9 November 2014 but nothing confirming this on official Cycle challenge website. ..

+1

Its not a real mtb race, its more of an outing for family members with bicycles, who tend to push the bikes more than anything else.

I have but a few months to train for a sub 3 94.7.

Anybody have a training regimen that can help me attain this?

Last year this time I was in a cast following a knee op. I wasn't able to get on a bike between 20 April and mid August and still finished the 94.7 in 2:48 from E bunch.

Here's the recipe

1) Ride at least 1 X 2+ hour ride a week (Cradle, MTB, whatever)

2) Other training not too important, but make sure your training adds up to at least 6+ hours a week in total

3) Go ride at Suikerbosrand once a month as fast as you can and write down your times

4) I you can ride the 58km suikerbosrand loop under 2:20, you can do a sub-3 in 94.7 in a good bunch (F or better).

5) If you are not in a good bunch, try riding a suikerbosrand 101km early in November (do the long loop twice). If you can manage this under 4:30 you'll get your sub 3 no matter where you start

Results are guaranteed.

Its a game reserve close to Heidelberg. You are in Randburg (from underneath your avatar), so it's a 50 minute drive.

Take the N3 to Durban, first off-ramp after the Total Petroport Garage, cross the highway and head out for another +-5 km's. Very nice, safe and hilly ride. I reckon its the best road cycle in Gauteng on all levels.

The route follows a figure 8, so there is a small loop (+- 10km) and a large loop (+- 45km.). That's what I meant with "loop".

Yes. Much better but also a lot harder. e.g. if you ride 60 at the cradle in 2h00, suikerbosrand will take 2h30. Most of the time there are literally hundreds of eland, wildebeest, zebra, rooihartbees and blesbok somewhere along the route.

So close to Diepsloot. Will it be safe?
