Agree.

It was my first (and last) argus

I was honestly staggered at how well organised it was. The registration process was a breeze and the check in procedure for me was easy as pie.

People are stupid and when you put 35000 together and throw in their bicycles and ego's and then throw in a bunch of boozed up spectators littered along the route it's a recipe for a fckup. It's so easy to crit but doing a better job is another thing altogether.

Now I've heard everything! Omega Man riding road! ;)

If behaving like a total ****, taking unnecessary risks and making it unpleasant for the 32 000 that sees it as a day out is what is required to do your best, then please proceed. My best time is a 3h18. My willy is still the same length as it would have been with a sub 3.

To get back to my original point - guys that know they are 4 hour riders starting with guys trying for a sub 3 are the ones taking unnecessary risks. I'm sure the organizers would be happy with this being brought to their attention.

First we hear that The Crow had/has a road bike and now this, the world has gone mad!

I suppose what I've learnt from this Argus, is that you can never know what to expect next from fellow cyclists! We sure are an unpredictable lot. :D

Race timing(racetec)

  • I had a noticeable discrepancy in my recorded time and official time of 3mins. I personally started my Polar RCX 5 -20 seconds after the starters gun and stopped it about 30 seconds after crossing the line, so maybe consider having a second timing supplier ( and NO it doesnt auto stop- also I didnt stop or get off once, so bugs in system??? No? :cursing:

I started mine on the gun & stopped it 30secs after crossing mats not the finish line. The finish line is for the pro's only. my Garmin Edge 500 was nearly 99% correct vs. Racetec.

ok so if you punctured / broke a chain and your sub 3 was moertoe? why not take it easy and enjoy the vibe? I guess there will always be a rider in "D" complaining because a guy in "C" ended up being slower than him. Next time do better in your seeding event.

I would add some proper signage at the start, perhaps colour coded.

I am good with a map, but in the dark it is difficult to find the route to your gate.

Have one side red and the other green, matching your boarding card, and put big arrows on the roads so that you find the back of your shute if you are not familiar with cape town.

WTF, no matter where you came from you got to where you wanted to be. I even changed start chutes with no issue. (Yes Backwards)

The way I understand the timing is that the timing mats just after the start simply picks you up as having started and then give you exactly the same start time as the rest of your group and the mats at the finish records your individual time. This is to prevent mat to mat racing where riders deliberately hang back after starting and then have a quicker time if they simply finish in the bunch.

Agree. But you are not addressing my point. Cheers.

I learnt that Snickers have a bigger marketing budget to pay the organisers than Bar One. Would swop my goody bag Snicker for the Bar One girls on the bend just before descending into Misty Cliffs, any day.

Haha. On a road bike no less.

And don't tell anyone but I had a great time.

Guys the thread is a light-hearted 1st timers brainfart, the intention is to spark debate and maybe an email to the real organisers (not Madam Zille). If we're lucky maybe someone with clout reads this and speaks to someone else and they improve the race and make it more enjoyable then my job is done! I am by no stretch of the imagination a "racing snake", but have been training a fair bit for 8 months and yes mostly on Sat and Sunday with Cyclelab, but I want to measure my performance against my peers and 6 years younger brother. I beat him by 30 seconds and I'll be back. Not hating on Argus, PPA or any organisers. I do NOT wanna dice with a guy in a purple Barney suit. Its just a litttttle more to me!

Isn't that the whole point of seeding? Let the ****'s start at the front to keep out of the way of the 32000 just having a fun day out? The front starting groups is dangerous enough as it is, don't want to be taken out in a crash caused by some ***** that should not have been there but at the back.
