longweasel Posted April 5, 2014 Share I'm so impressed with my anthem 29er, the ctd suspension really makes it feel like 3 bikes in one, having ridden yeti 575's ibis and the like I would definitely say stick with the giant. The maestro seems to be a copy of my mojo's dw link and performs the same. The spaz is awesome just more xc marathon oriented

DJR Posted April 5, 2014 Share Excuse the noob question, but what is a dropper ? Â Seatpost that allows you to move your saddle up or down while on the move. Operated with a lever on the handlebars.

nolipoli Posted April 5, 2014 Share I had a TX29er and now have a Trance 27.5. It's a lot more fun, and nearly as fast on the flats. MaXiMuM
GoLefty!! Posted April 5, 2014 Share Hi all, I have R30 000 to spend on a bike and narrowed it down to these 2 bikes. I like doing some fun trail stuff, and some XC on the side. Any advice on the better bike?  IMO the Giant is better quality and better value for money. Specialized bikes will b built by Giant in 2015. Must be a reason.. faanie Posted April 16, 2014 Share Have never ridden a stumpy, but loving my Trance 26er, so +1 to Trance 650b. Keep the 10k for added extras, you WILL spend it. I'm slightly confused though, isn't there a Trance 1 or advanced or something that will be in the 30k bracket?
TBone7 WP Posted April 16, 2014 Share I got me the FSR Comp http://www.specialized.com/za/en/bikes/mountain/stumpjumper-fsr/stumpjumper-fsr-comp-29 and must admit it rides like a dream. Awesome components and awesome Travel. 130mm Travel front and rear and does not have the Brain system which is cheaper to maintain. I got it for R 27k at CycleFunatic in Durbanville. I just swopped the wheels but the normal wheels are light and durable. Geoetry is much different to the Trance. AWESOME ride alround, Very fast and awesome on technical areas and rolls over anything nonky
Balsie Posted April 16, 2014 Share I have a carbon Giant Anthem with XX Group Set Formula brakes,100mm World Cup Shock and a set of ZTR Flows with Chris King Hubs etc etc. Very well specd bike and I absoloutly love it as my race bike! Ideal for stage racing. I have just about two months ago bought the Giant Trance 650b for 20K(The one with the SLX Groupset) I have upgraded the wheels and brakes which have made a huge difference but the SLX groupset has really surprised me.On the singletrack with the 140mm travel wheel size and geometry of the trance it is flippen amazing! Did the sugar rush at Hola Trails on this bike,a fast 40 km race with plenty single track and it had me smiling from ear to ear. Point I am making is  Giant 650b good value for money and good for single track and hill training!Horses for courses. Am doing Karkloof on my 650b and SANI2C on my 29er.If your plan is fun with XC riding Giant 650b all the way!

Just the frame will blow the OP's budget. Wouldn't mind one though... Meezo and Captain Fastbastard Mayhem

Must be a reason..That's a surprise because as I understand it, Merida have been building them up to now, and Merida owns 50% of Specialised...
