Found my fiance a nice used bike with good spec from an honest friend - Guess what? She says it looks ugly and doesn't care about the spec (typical).

She likes the look of these 2. Which is the better buy? They are both around R7K - To me the Silverback has slightly higher spec on most things and an air fork

If I give her the choice between an "ugly" looking bike with XTR and a pink Makro bike I know which she will choose :whistling:

Buy her the one she likes as it will probably only be ridden a couple of times.

My wife has the Merida 29er full XT ridden three times had it 8 months.

Silverback with 105 groupset ridden twice in 8 months.

If she enjoys and continues to ride you can always upgrade.

At the end of the day, we all want to "love" the bike we ride, and what it looks like does matter - in some cases more than the travel of the shocks if we're just riding trails.

I LOVE my silverback splash 1 - do like the colour? No. ... but at least it's not that disgusting colour of the Splash 2.

I think for that price range you will get far better value for money looking at a 26er rather than the 650b (27.5er).

Maybe swing by your local bike shop and ask them to make you a good deal on a 26er and due to them not being the current craze, you will probably get a good deal.

I think your mistake was to ask the Madam first...

Assuming it is an appropriately sized bike, I would have bought the good used one from my mate and gone "Tadaaaa; check it out my skattie, I got you a lekker bike. Go ride it; You'll loooove it. Bicycle riding makes great legs and bums, and is good for overall health. Now go get your cycling pant on and try it out."

Haha, fun problem to have. But whatever get's her riding with you. I'd say go for the Silverback. Very good specs and at least it's an air fork. Not sure what Suntours entry Air forks are like but cannot be worse than the pogo stick fitted to the front of my Giant.

166cm - My medium Scott is too big for her - Not quite sure wha tshe is worried about damaging on the top tube

as they say, the TT shouldn't be one of the contact points between body and bike - and let's put it this way...it might not get damaged, but it might need some time out .... :whistling:
