Looking for some advice here - hope it's the correct thread before I get roasted !

I commute to work 4 or 5 times a week averaging 11 hours a week. Nothing special mostly flat with a hill ride on Fridays. Over the Easter weekend was totally off the bike and when I resumed riding to work this last week my thighs were really sore at the start of each ride ? I have battled all this week both on the in and out rides hoping it would go away but no luck. What could have caused this - my 4 days off the bike ? Didn't do anything out of the ordinary over the long weekend to cause the discomfort either.

Hope someone can shed some light on this for me

In my experience (and I might be wrong), I think it's a shortage of supplements (vitamins, proteins and those things).

I use the USN protein shake when my legs feel down for a couple of days. Because sometimes when I start my ride, my legs feel useless and I don't get any power out of them, that's the times when I didn't drink my shakes.

What do you do for recovery and overall maintenance?

Massage

Compression

Foam roller

Rest

???

Non of the above I'm afraid !

Maybe a bit of rest over the weekends which is about to change as we head into Sani2c

But I'm going to follow the advice re the supplements - any thing is worth a try at this stage

Foam rollers are for sissies.......just use the wives dough roller  :whistling:

There is a trainer at my Virgin Active who uses a barbell to do his rolling on, no jokes!

Try some stretching and a massage before you start on the pills.

Taking a few days off and not doing anything new or strenuous exercise in that time period should not cause "burning thighs"

Maybe something changed on your bike set up, seat height lower (seat post slipped down a bit), saddle position moved?

It helps to know / record your seat height and double check every once in awhile. Or make a mark on the seat post with a permanent marking pen.
