Travelling from CPT, what would be the better route? Up N1 via Beaufort Wes or up the N2?

Been given many vary opinions for both routes, so not sure which will be best...

if you are not in a hurry https://goo.gl/maps/HGzya

there are roadworks between PE and Kingwilliamstown on the N2, best bet to take the R72 after Nanaga. the road isn't in the best of condition after Port Alfred so take it slow.

Cool, thanks for the tip about R72, as awesome as your route would be, adds quite a few hours... Maybe on the way back...

If you coming from Cape Town you won't pass through King Williams Town.I just travelled back from CT to PE on the N2 and it was fine, probably a bit quieter through Oudtshoorn etc ie using the N2 then cutting down.

mmmmmm, the N2 runs straight through KWT when you are going to EL (where the IM 70.3 is held in January every year)....

i.e. if you keep to the N2 from CT you will pass the following towns.

Grabouw

Caledon

Swellendam

Heidelberg

Riversdale

Albertinia

Mossel Bay

George

Knysna

Plett

Humansdorp

Port Elizabeth (where Ironman South Africa "full IronMan" is held in April every year)

Grahamstown

Peddie

KWT

East London

True, but Selous Scout is probably referring to the route I looked at which hangs a right onto the R345 at Peddie and then joins the R72 which enters EL from the SW instead of the NW like the N2 from KWT does.

then you can just as well join the R72 at Nanaga. The N2 from PE to KWT is crap
