Here is what I think (also being more of a runner than a biker):

Make sure you all do a training swim to get used to the water.  Normally its very cold and Sunday morning is not the time to realise it.

Prepare yourself mentally for the bike.  Going out is gonna be brutal as it is uphill against the wind (currently).  You will however fly back.  Being a runner (and not biking enough) make sure you get out of the saddle lots to stretch the back and also to "run" on the bike a bit more.  It gives other muscles a bit of a break (hamstings).

Take the last big hill easy.  You can ruin your race here.

Start both the bike and run slow and build it up.  Don't go into the red zone under any circumstances - even if it means walking from the Beach to T1 up the stairs.  Every 30 seconds in the red zone will cost you 5 minutes later on. (cramps etc)

Eat, drink and enjoy the scenery.

(last tip:  put your running shoes in a ziplock bag inside the T-bag.  When it rains they could get wet otherwise.  Nothing as *** as putting on already wet shoes in T2)

Ok guys I have an entry for myself and my wife. She has done a bit of training and myself not so much. We were away for a month and just did some running (no bikes available). I have cycled 45 km since IM. I told her we not doing it but now I'm thinking I have just basically thrown 4,5 k away. Should I maybe not rock up and wing it? What your thoughts?

IM70.3 Athletes,

Go for it. Stirring the pot.

Lucky hardly comes into it, apart perhaps wrt the weather:

We do not rise to the level of our expectations. We fall to the level of our training.

go for it bru, wing it... if you don't finish, its fine, you get to dink a beer earlier :-) no shame in trying...

Why so serious?

Agree! I am still in a panic, but I am going to give it a shot. There's always next year!

@Garfield 2010, great tip with the shoes...never to old to learn a new trick.

@Prince Vlad you have  8h30 to finish, so decide your pace and stick to it and don't get caught up and just see it as a long training day but go and do it.

Man the roadworks are a nightmare from Bloem basically, getting more and more stop and goes... Every few kms

Hopefully they are being managed properly. Our group of cars almost had a head on collision yesterday as they let us go before all the oncoming traffic had cleared through.... Asses!
