You may not see it as bashing but it is. Why do people constantly go on about the prices of things? Hell man a Porsche costs millions but I don't complain about it. I can't afford it simple. There are lots of posts in this thread and lots of others about prices.

Here is my challenge. To all the moaners out there go and try and organise a race. Get land permission. Get all the things you need to make it a huge success. Then you charge R50 for it. When you go broke take a look at what it costs to do this kind of thing.

I cannot by any means afford this race but like you I am dead keen to see how it goes. I would like to do it but I am not going to be negative about it. I don't care what it costs. If I can afford it great if not maybe I need a better job.

It is boring listening to people go on about races and how expensive they are. Do you not think the homeless guy in the street would not just like a roof over his head? But he can't afford it. There are too many complainers in this country. They should pack up and go and live in crime free australia. The land of milk and honey!

I think you are taking something very personally here - and comparing someone who is conscious of the cost of things to someone who needs to go live in Australia makes absolutely no sense. Lets look at the facts:

R100 000 is a lot of money in anyone's book, so OF COURSE people will talk about it - your are being dillusional if you think people won't mention the price.

second point - your whole point about organising a race makes no sense either, and is not really relevant to what point you are trying to make here. I agree it does not take R50/rider to organise an event with all the ancilliaries...but it certainly does not cost 10k..whas your point?

and finally did you miss the point I made that I am keen to see how it goes - so no - bringing the cost into it is not bashing or complaining it is merely being factual

oh...and I find it quite ironic that you are complaining about people complaining

I don't quite get your rant, why should everybody unconditionally hero worship any new big idea/race that comes along. Surely hubbers are allowed to have different opinions and discuss them, I think it would be great if this turn out to be an new iconic event on our calendar, but for the moment I don't see how the numbers will add up...

Here's my question, the closest comparative race I can think of is the Freedom Challenge which cost about R20k per rider, what do you get for R30k extra other than the chance to win big prize money?

When someone pays millions for a Porche instead of buying a Corolla, at least he knows what he is getting for that extra premium.

How well will they monitor the front guys?

With this prize money, combined with the big gaps of the Freedom challenge, what is there to prevent the unscrupulous from arranging some tows by friends on motorbikes, or similar nefarious activity?

Real Time GPS based tracking ?

The GPS tracking will pick up obvious stuff like jumping in a car, but simply keeping up a good speed with lowish heart rate? I guess if you track all parameters (power, heart rate, speed, cadence), you'll go a long way to limiting most issues.

Damn I haven't read so much whining about costs & money since since my 5 year old kids realised their week's pocket money isn't enough to buy a new Barbie and a BMX. Only difference is they don't know what 'free market economy', 'willing buyer - willing buyer' and 'risk versus return' mean. Seems many of the whiners here are equally ignorant and cognitively immature.

Is it not time for a shake up in cycling?

More TV money going to teams instead of organisers?

Bigger prize money to attract top riders?

Less dependence on sponsors?

Just asking....

Munga-organisers launches by far the most expensive mtb race in the world and nobody supposed to comment on the entry fee? Now there is a "ignorant and cognitively immature" demand if I ever saw one.

Maybe share some of your sage insight into "free market economy" to convince the whiners?
