This definition of "unsupported" would at least partially explain some of the high entry fee.

“We are promoting The Munga as being ‘unsupported’, but this simply means no outside seconding for any teams. Our five race villages, situated roughly every 150-180 kilometres, will offer comprehensive catering for the participants and we want to ensure this is of a high quality. By limiting the numbers we can guarantee a premium experience,” added Harris.

The sceptic in me still thinks limiting the number of entries is "highly optimistic"

450??

450*$10k = $4.5m

Endomondo challenge to stand a chance at a free team entry here

edited to add and clarify: OK it seems that if you win the challenge you get an entry. Not for me...but something to consider for those folk who are keen on the race, but short on (not so small) entry fee.

This challenge may just turn out to be a bigger push than the race itself :)

wow, that's a massive prize for an endomondo challenge. And a massive incentive to cheat.....

hmm, ja. going to be lots of flagging going on here. BUT if it comes down to 4/5 contenders in the final week, they will have to do a lot of riding.

most obvious trick for me would be to use shuttle runs. find a nice long downhill, and get a mate in a bakkie. perfectly legal.

One phone (device)/endomondo account used between two (or more if the others don't want the entry) people, obviously never riding together

Yes, and I don't think it will be particularly hard to manipulate gpx files to change the dates etc

Switch your gps on and go for a long slow drive in your car.

For 100K? Plenty of motiviation to bend the rules..
