29. Doping:

29.1. The Race conforms to the World Anti-Doping Code and as such adopts a zero tolerance policy towards doping in all its forms.

29.2. The Race organizer reserves the right to test all participants as and when it deems appropriate and no rider shall object thereto.

29.3. The top twenty finishing Teams can expect to be tested as part of the normal Race procedure.

29.4. Any Rider caught doping, will the banned from The Munga Race for life.

I would much rather do an audax.

Take London Edinburgh London for example, entry was 200 pounds for a 1400km ride to be completed in 116 hours. Or Paris Brest Paris, which was a 100 euros for a 1200km ride in 90hours. At the checkpoints one could find food, showers, mattresses and hopefully a bike mechanic.

With opportunities to do rides like these, I fail to see the allure to amateur riders for doing a 10 000 USD ride of a 1000km in 5 days, of which the biggest part will be on district roads. The prize money will only draw a select few.

Snap, fully agree

Question was asked last night and answer was that it will be CSA sanctioned but UCI won't be involved.

Fingers in the bloody till already, trust them

The team with the best strategy are going to win this. If there is going to be live coverage for the full five days it is going to be like MTB Big Brother!

Was there last night and my understanding that it's not a ridiculously technical/tough course - the distance is enough!! 2,5 days is the organisers estimate of winning time.

From that some thoughts:

  1. Lance Armstrong.... not UCI sanctioned or WADA sanctioned - yes, code following, but not sanctions. CSA could say no?
  2. Considering the prize money is more than the winner gets for Tour de France... no-one has suggested any other genre of cyclists? And some of those guys used to be sharp MTBérs.
  3. This is a long distance time-trial... a team of ironmen guys? There are some beasts.... (who can't run...)

So Cadel Evans, Andy Starkowicz etc...?

Unfortunately I have a personal entry fee cap of $9,999... Just missed it!

Dont let that statnd in your way. Ill sponsor the extra dead president for you.

The only off kilter comment Alex Harris makes is his reference to "pampered pro's" - no doubt like the ones he saw on the Epic. Here's the thing - some of those boys and girls are a lot tougher than they look and I bet some of them enter this - their pampering sponsors will jump at the opportunity to prove him wrong and foot the bill - maybe that's the idea though - a bit of a challenge thrown down is always good for a story and some $$...

edit: Oh, ya, its time MTB got some funding and decent prize money but I'd like to see it also thrown the way of the free riders who put their lives at risk at the likes of the Red Bull Rampage...

They should maybe add an open category (not eligible for price money) with a cheaper entry fee. Then we can see who the real hard men are.
