Do you know what you are covered for / Cyclesure?

The intention is of this is to inform fellow cyclist of the exclusions that does exist!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you all know my bike was stolen from my property more that 3 weeks ago.

I stay in a secure complex/estate with electric fence and 2 guards on duty all the time.

At the time my bike was inside my garden behind a locked gate.

After numerous phone calls and emails from my side I didnt receive the expected service or answers from cyclesure.

Eventually I asked my dad to phone as I felt I was getting no resolve.

Today I get informed that my claim was turned down.

Reason for their decision is that there was no forced entry.

I looked over my contract that i received when i joined cycle sure in 2009.

In easy english it says that you need to take all nessessary precausion to keep your belongings safe.

Now my claim was turned down as there was no signs of forced entry.

I then disputed this with them and then did some digging and found an email with policy amendments.

Now this is what I want to warn your hubbers about:

Bike jacking payouts are only paid out if it was violent.

It is the owners responsibility to try and recover the stolen goods.

Also if your bike gets stolen at any organised event like epic sani2c, joberg2c, advendurance events it has to be in a secure bike storage facility with access contols in place and approved locks that they have on their list.

This begs a lot of questions.

And if you read through their strict terms you almost get the impression that they are covering themselves to never payout.

So please go relook your contracts and see what you are really covered for.

Lastly, the ammendments they mailed was never

signed for or aknowledged by me.

After re-looking their contract, I feel that they charge a very high premium for very little coverage.

edit: Policy Document added

I am with the dudes that do "insurance good and proper"

Yes I pay a premium, BUT I have never had an issue and they have paid out more than once.

You need to be sure that you are covered for ALL RISK. That is not cheap, but worth it when you need it.

that is ridiculous - I know it doesnt help, but blast them on all social networks. I gave up my cyclesure policy years ago when I read the nitty gritty...It is very important that you raised these points and make others aware of what they are NOT getting insured for...maybe when a mass realise cyclesure will feel the pinch of cancelled contracts

Jis man dis nie cool nie! Ek het onlangs my fiets by hulle laat verseker, sal maar kyk vir ander opsies. Watse ander plekke is die moeite werd?

Sounds to me you need to have your bike locked in a bomb proof bank vault before they'll even consider paying you out, after giving you a good run around in the hope you'll give up...

It's not only Cyclesure.....it's all insurances.

I had a huge amount of tools stolen out my garage. The guys jumped over the back wall and went to the garage through my braai area.Patio door was open as i was with the kids in the front of the house. My insurance refused to pay out as there was no forced entry.

My folks car was jammed with the remote scam and their insurance refused to pay out.

This sounds like a perfect matter for the Ombud for Short-Term Insurance:

Go to http://www.osti.co.za/ and read how to "lodge a complaint" - see below.

You must complain to the Insurance Company first, before we can look at your complaint.

Here are some hints to help you complain effectively to the Insurer and details of what to do next if you are still unhappy with their decision.

Complaining to the Insurance Company:

  1. It is usually best to complain in writing. But if you phone, ask for the name of the person you speak to. Keep a note of this information, with details such as, the date and time of your call and what was said. This may be required at a later stage.
  2. Remain calm and polite, however emotional, angry or upset you may be. You are more likely to explain your complaint clearly and effectively if you can stay calm.
  3. Initially attempt contacting the person you originally dealt with. If they cannot help, indicate that the matter will be taken further. Seek details of the name or job title of the person who will be handling your complaint and for details of the Insurer's complaints procedure.
  4. Attempt taking up the matter with a Senior Official at the Insurer.
  5. When you write a letter of complaint, set out the facts as clearly as possible.
  6. Write down the facts in a logical order and stick to what is relevant. Include important details like your claim number or your policy number.
  7. Keep a copy of any letters between you and the Insurer.

What to do next:

If you are not happy with the Insurer's decision you may:

  1. We may be able to help. You will need to fill in our complaint form and send it back to us.
  2. Issue a summons out of the Small Claims Court ( there is a small cost involved ) on the Insurance Company. The maximum amount that can be claimed in the Small Claims Court is R 7,000.00.
  3. Consult with an Attorney to pursue the matter by means of further legal action.

Application Form

Complete the complaint form and post, fax or email it to us.

  1. Print off the form and fill it in by hand.
  2. You can also "save" a version to fill in on screen - but please do not alter the document format.

Either post it back to us at the address on the form or fax it to us on (011) 726-5501 or email it to info@osti.co.za

  1. Post it back to us at the address on the bottom of the form.
  2. Do not forget to enclose copies of all relevant documents.

All insurance is legalised theft, they will do anything to not payout but guaranteed to take your bucks each and every month.

We spend all out disposable income on protecting what little we have because these ANC / EFF supporters can't get that sense of entitlement out of their thick skulls.

Sorry for your loss Mattie, hope those bastards get flattened by a taxi
