Duane_Bosch Posted December 12, 2023 Share 22 hours ago, Gnarly said: We have one of these in shop today.... Looks pretty good. Guy testing it says quite a bit down on HP, suspension not bad, same as Showa. price is quite a bit lower than other rally bikes. Those certainly look the part but all of the reviews I've watched on the youtubes complained about it being down on power compared to what you'd expect from a "normal" 450. But if the pricing is good and you know what you're getting into then it's all good. They really look the business to me.
Wayne Potgieter Posted December 12, 2023 Share My son is now at an age that I can start teaching him to ride a roadbike. Will keep to empty parking lots for a while but managed to grab this bike from a colleague for NZD1,000 (roughly ZAR10k) It has 40,000km on the clock, but brand new tyres and is well maintained. A couple of dents and scratches. Perfect for a learner bike. IceCreamMan, RoddieJ, WaynejG and 4 others

Spokey Posted December 28, 2023 Share Compliments of the Season to you All! My Baviaans Birthday Bash was a motorcycling highlight of my biking trips and definitely a bucket list adventure on a bike. I have travelled the route in both directions in my bakkie and it is an absolute doddle compared to the bike. I elected to take the old KLR 650 as it is tough and repairable with chewing gum, fencing wire and duct tape and if all fails a hammer often does the trick! ( kidding…..) The day was hot and airless, the 66kms of the Reserve really took it out of me. I was tired at the end and managed to have a close inspection of the terrain with a small “off” on a right hand uphill corner. A stupid prang that resulted in bent bars, a busted mirror and a bruised leg……though the ego was bruised more. I was angry too as I had successfully crossed all the water obstacles and had just 5 mins before the crash told myself to be careful and concentrate! Anyways, made it to Patensie for a good rest before the return to Hoekwil via Antoniesburg Pass and Steytlerville. In all, 890 kms round trip with about 85% dirt…. RocknRolla Posted December 29, 2023 Share Baviaans is definately a bucket list for me. maybe 2024. In the meantime, I did a small trip yesterday, just to get out the house a bit. 350 odd km, with a stop for some beer and Currywurst at Brauhaus near Rustenburg. Got a beesting on the arm for my effort, little shite flew into my jacket sleeve, and crawled up to my tricep where he decided this is it. Very lekker, gosh, must be 10 years at least since I was at Brauhaus! Tis a fine stop over.
Hairy Posted December 31, 2023 Share Yo yo yo you Riff Raff So Friday last minute I decided to join a group going over Bainskloof and then back to CT again after a quick lunch stop. I ended up running about 20min late as I was held up at a print shop doing last minute work and realised the bike was running on fumes. This meant I had to chase down the group. Caught them half way up Bainskloof .... let's just say the ride was spirited getting there. I have been planning to ride this route on the bike for a very long time, and have not done it on the bike before. What an exceptional pass to transverse on a bike, the whole loop (Even the k@k@ N1 return) was just awesome. Now I have been eyeing out the GS 1200's for a little while, and the return leg of the loop I left early with another rider from the lunch stop ( https://opstal.co.za/opstal-eat/ ), who happened to be on a GS 1200. The bike looks like fun, has good acceleration and there is the alure of taking a dirt road or two to just see where it goes. Seeing as "everyone" has a GS, and it is akin to wearing Crocs where your self respect seeps out through the holes in the Crocs I have brushed off this urge. Accidentally I have bought a pair of Crocs, and they are ridiculously comfortable ... I have even worn them in public, so maybe I am ready now to try out a GS for a decent test ride. The other thing is, with the GS you can do far more mileage on a tank, with the Fat Bob I am sitting at 250/270km off a tank and hoping to find a petrol station nearby. The loop taken and a link to where I joined up with some of the group https://www.instagram.com/reel/C1cf2yzIihM/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA WaynejG, Spokey, RocknRolla and 2 others

RocknRolla Posted January 1 Share Not all GS riders wear crocs. But like ICM says, go ride a 12GS, and then buy one. Hairy
sawystertrance Posted January 2 Share Looks like a fun ride and I like the new surface on Bain's but why, oh why, have they removed all parking spots and added all those rocks to the one or two that remain? Surely it can't be in the name of safety? Look forward to seeing photos of your first motorbike. Hairy
sawystertrance Posted January 2 Share Sorry Hairy that was a bit rough for a first post of the year. Happy new year guys and I hope this thread stays as cool and rewarding as it is. If anyone is interested I just finished a video of a trip I did last year. Slack I know but if anyone is interested, here it is: Hairy, WaynejG and Spokey
IceCreamMan Posted January 3 Share Seriously considering this lil bike. Damn it’s sexy. Like ultra sexy. https://www.kawasaki.co.uk/en/products/Supersport/2024/Ninja_ZX-4RR_40th_Anniversary_Edition/overview?Uid=092BCg1fXAxZXF1eC1AOXF5cXwoLC14KWlkJUFwNDFAMClA&aa_click=14894039010203691 put it in perspective. On this island owning large capacity motorcycles is as effective as a chocolate tea pot. Country lanes are impossible to speed on just due to the roads themselves and the motorways are where you lose your licence for speeding. Very few opportunities to open up a big bike. Loving my RC390 so maybe this lil kwak will fit the bill. and well, revving a bike to 16k is an aphrodisiac. WaynejG

I wonder how long it will be before some mad Asian dude shoehorns the 400 engine into his ZX25 frame......
