Mmm...yep got me thinking there. The photo posted by LeTurbo is indeed of the Ouberg Pass but to my understanding the Tour does not route through there (the pass is situated west of Sutherland). In my comment I was actually thinking of the Karelskraal Pass which cuts through the Nuweveld Mountains and connects Merweville to the escarpment - to become the "Rantepad" which goed to Sutherland. Spectacularly beautiful road - and really amazing on bike-back!

Some pics from the ride. We did Ouberg pass on day 2 (photo at the bottom) and another one between Merweville and Sutherland (day 5) (top photo) - can't remember the name but it was the toughest day of riding I have ever done.

Ya, the weather was pretty horrible. Will definitely bring a proper waterproof jacket next time. Any recommendations for a good one?

Craft, Cape Storm, First Ascent etc all make good and reasonably priced ones.

 

Mates of mine did this (Hunter Cycles) , the weather and wind really tested humour levels out there. Awesome looking event, definitely keen on this next year.

A man of undeniable taste is our Kranswurm, though slightly foolish for ever disposing of his Le Turbo. I guess we're all destined to learn some hard lessons in life.
