I know what you're saying Eldron but I believe if the money is right (enough) the guys will line up to race.

We need a redistribution of TV money, more for riders less for organisers.

Munga offering more than TdF? Come on, its not right.

The money would have to be huge - top riders earn 30-50 times the TdF prize money in sponsorships, endorsements, appearance fess etc.

Standard practice is for the winner to not take any prize money but split it between the team.

If top GCers were forced to ride all 3 grand tours I reckon we'd see them peak for 1 or 2 and diesel the others. That wouldn't make for better viewing...

They don't do it for the race prize money. As Eldron said, they get more in sponsorship. If they could win the double or triple, they would with out question give it a shot, and not for the money.

I think 30-50 times is maybe too steep but they certainly earn loads.

I predict that there will be major changes in cycling in years to come similar to what we had in other sports such as cricket, football, golf etc. Someone will put up the money and top guys will race for it. Might even mean that we lose one of the Grand Tours. The teams cannot continue to rely on sponsorships and the way to do that is to let them earn more prize money.

It's a team sport. Like rugby. Wouldn't you be a bit irritated if Bismark tackled Lambie as he was about to score a try?

F1 isn't a team sport in the same way.

Also expecting riders to compete in every race and ride like hell every day is what originally drove the drug culture. It's not humanely possible

Its 2014 and its professional, its about the money.

Armstrong has a net worth of $125,000,000 - the rest of the blue train are between $30,000,000 and $70,000,000....

TdF pot is 0.3% of his nett wealth - Giro and Vuelta are less. I don't reckon he'd have tried all 3 tours for $3,000,000 each and he was allowed to use drugs back then.

Sure my math is after the fact but I don't reckon there are enough sponsors to put in the cash required to attract top GCers to all 3 grand tours.

Golfers (hahahaha golfers, sportsmen hahahaha) - they dont go to all the events; so if the strolling jumpers find it hard, how much moreso proper sport?

Same can be said of FA Cup and League Cup and Europa League in football.

So many events, so much demand to see top contests, not enough supply of sportsfolk or top efforts possible from sportsfolk.

Collectively we ask too much.

It seems to be an 'angry Monday' all over today. From people walking up trails to slow cyclists at fun rides to grand tour professionals not flogging themselves enough.

Is this truly how much they are estimated to have made?

Why? plenty other dopers in the peleton who have taken his place.

Yea? As bad as rugby you think? Two super rugby players this year show up with weird blood clots. No one says a word about EPO but even us cyclists feel free to have a go at the pro cyclists. This after Froome publicly complains that he hasn't been tested in three weeks. Complains mind you.

And Serena said a few months back that she has been tested out of competition three times in her life. We think cycling has a problem?

Take any other sport, and their testing protocols are piss-poor compared to cycling, even athletics, which is starting to up it's game. Pisses me off when fat-arse golfers have a lot to say, doping is rife in golf!!! Steroids and beta-blockers.
