In BL, makes a nice change from the last few AL starts. I may be able to stay with the BL bunch for this race. The AL guys like to charge on the hills, and I usually fall of there.

I will give it my best, according to Training Peaks, my form is great after being in Cape Town for the weekend, with no riding.

I've been fighting with them for over a week now, sent them 3 mails and although I got an initial reply, still not fixed:

1.) Time for Lost City is duplicated, and in my case used twice in calculation.

2.) Winning time for Dischem is wrong - 2.07.00 vs the actual winning time of 2.35.49. This was also an error on Racetec's site but that was fixed a week ago.

3.) For the Serengeti they have 2.23.16 but the winning time was 2.29.30 (although there were some tandems that finished before that but I don't think they count and the best was still not 2.23.16)

Result is that my seeding which, by my calculation, should be around 15-16 is now sitting on 18. Maybe if more people mail them they will get off their backsides...

Not sure why your time for the Lost City is duplicated, but regarding the other issues (i.e. the different winning times for the Dis-Chem and the Serengeti), this might be a result of how Pedal Power does the calculations. From the PPA website:

"There are 5 steps involved in the seeding process:

1. Choosing the weightings of the different rides

2. Establishing a base event

3. For each ride, adjusting the winner’s time and calculating its difficulty relative to the base event

4. Calculating an index for each rider

5. Calculating a weighted average for each cyclist

6. If your weighted average index is better than the lower limit of your current seeded group, then you are eligible to move to a better group."

So, as I understand it, if a race is regarded as easier (or the field wasn't as strong) as the "base event" (which is usually the Argus), the winner's time for the race (in this case the Dis-Chem and the Serengeti) will be adjusted.

The above having been stated, an adjustment to the winner's time for the Dis-Chem of almost 30 minutes is a bit excessive - it is one of the tougher races, and usually has quite a strong field.

CL for me have not done a race since 94.7 expectations are pretty low but will see how it goes on the new route

AL for me. Another day of suffering...

My saddle height is fixed, so no riding an hour into me this time  (hoping)

AL for me. Thee "Gentle" guys will be racing hard. Was looking forward to the old course but this one will do.

Cant wait to see how the new bike goes in a race, since my old one failed after the lost city.

I'm sure the Propel is lighter than the old bike - so you should do very well!! Good luck and race hard!!

Not liking the downhill start. It is exactly the opposite of what I think is a safe start. I will be off the back hoping to get back later. This was always a "target" race for me to get my seeding sorted. I now think it will be a solid training ride. Safety first. AL start.

Guys if you don't get a chance to pick up your race number at any of the registration days will the race officials give you any hassles if you just pitch up in your batch at the start and maybe a copy of your seeding sms on your phone? Is there a requirement to have your number and go to registration?

Did Emperors Palace Classic last year without a number. One or two of the officials had some questions but wasn't a big issue.

Probably just depends on the official
