I also wrote to council a few months back about how the "lockdown" would only benefit a few people.Other than a e mail reply to confirm that my mail was noted,i had no response whatever from council.

Till today,i am still under the impression that someone, somewhere in some department,is not following the right protocol in dealing with this issue. This issue needs the attention of someone in city management on a higher level.

I got the same response to my objection email

I'm bumping this up again. We can't afford to stop objecting, this is a public open space that is seemingly being locked down to allow only a few to enjoy at their own convenience. The current councillor has made it very clear that Mtbers must not think they own the Forest but it's bigger than that, we are a cycling community on the Hub and by far it seems the cycling community is the largest and most vocal of the users, but what about dog walkers, runners etc. it's about the principle of the matter - if they get away with this - what other areas will follow suit?

It's no secret said councillor lives in the area and the forest lock down is benefitting that direct community almost exclusively whilst excluding people who made use of it for leisure activities.

My string of emails is now at 34 and involves Durparks, Cityparks, Council, Sub council, DA and the Mayor.  Durparks do not respond at all and whilst the rest all responded, they are now ignoring me.  Even the DA has now stopped responding, and they are the ones who publically insult their opposition on poor service delivery - go figure.  The fence is there now, the gates will be locked but we will have access via the tag system, which is fine, however the vineyard gates will be locked, which is really the only issue remaining.  The land is still there though and we will still have access albeit through certain gates - I suggest the layout gets changed up a bit to include a trail from the Spar gate to the gravel road that leads to the beacon, and then find some solution at the bottom to the exit at Vink's gate.  Then we just need to fight for the pedestrian gate at the electric station to link up with Lombards and the top of Majik.

Unfortunately I had the privilege of sitting in on numerous meetings where said counselor was present. Very narrow minded and not a lover of Mountain bikers is all I can say...

Shew, that Helgard guy in the comments has a bit an issue hey?

Piece of work that guy, especially loved these parts

Regularly boasting on Facebook, The Hub and Youtube how they are going to run "the walkers" over.

the Tygerburger as the mouthpiece/propaganda outlet for the elitist mountain bikers on the R100k bikes.

So exactly what is the status at the moment? Was there the other morning and no sign of anyone un-locking the gates...don't want to waste my time riding there again if the gates are going to be locked...

Dude gates are open in the day...but don't ask me for exact opening and closing times...Also the gates from Majik forest onto Altydgedacht(spelling?) appear to be permanently closed...so entering from there is a no no...

You could then enter at Majik, ride up the bottom St onto the dirst road next to the fence and then go through onto the vineyard track at the sub-station...last week this area was not closed off..so assume it still isn't.

It is a major pain for peeps not living on Majik directly (which luckily, I do) :)

But ja...its a *** situation when there is NO (or ambiguous) communication from the people controlling access!!!

If you come by car - you can park at the top shopping center - or down in Jip de Jager as before.

If you park in Jip de J, they expect you to cycle up the tar road (or on the pavement) and then enter at the top shopping center area.

I cycle to Jip. and enter there in Jip.

Then as mentioned above;

No point cycling up the vineyards hill - that gate apparently permanently closed (or possibly again open when trail tag system operative)

Enter in Jip de Jager  gate on the left side (of the river) - via the arboretum - potentially a cycle no go area - but no obvious sign board. just go slow and be polite to walkers , dogs etc.

It is possible to cross the river (after going straight on for about 100 meter) - but its better to Keep left up the track to the top (not allowed to go further past the houses !)- so, you turn right and ride across the dam wall  - left into the forest single track.

(be careful here as some guys come bombing down the majik forest trail - although everyone should be careful as it is a duel direction path and always has dog walkers etc. )

Once you exit the 'forest section' - turn right and follow the route you normally come down, but about 50 meters before you reach the 'double dip' - you turn up left, steep uphill for about 20 meters then go left - trail fairly overgrown but no problem - this takes you up the left fence but then crosses over to the right where it joins the road going up to the beacon.

The gate before the power sub-station (over to d'aria/bloemendal) is also closed - ride around the bottom left of the sub-s, and then you can go over to the "corridor link - lombards terra' etc (members only !) or uphill to the majik single track at the top.
