Accidents only HAVE to reported if someone got hurt, otherwise it's optional from a legal point of view,

Not a lego requirement, but a requirement comes in, any claim to a insurance company needs to be accompanied by a case number.

Surprisingly there are many people who don't report accidents to the SAPS and it's a criminal offense especially when the other party drives away from the accident scene.

I have absolutely zero faith in the SAPD.

After our accident as per attached link.

https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/133190-hit-and-run-in-bloemfontein/

It took more than a month for statements to be taken.

After we had made a big fuss, the matter was elevated to a competent investigator.

There was finally progress.

Unfortunately this guy was diagnosed with cancer and is on long term sick leave.

Nothing has happened since then.

When we started making a fuss recently it was discovered that the file was missing.

The drunken idiot who took us out will never face the music.

Not so !!!

Accidents always have to be reported.

I also thought only when someone is injured.

Our local SAPS recently fined someone R500 for not reporting a fender bender.

Local Facebook was up in arms but SAPS made their point and that was it.

What about vehicle/bike or some other damage (no personal injury) during incident and both parties don't have insurance, surely it's still a legal requirement?
