A noob's question about food and drink on this ride.

I've heard the refreshment stops are awesome - so does this mean you can get by carrying less food and drink with you?

Put another way, what's the minimum amount of liquid/food you should have with you on the bike?

1 x bottle. Then again I only have one cage so everything is 1 x bottle

Too many variables. Heat, humidity, fitness, pace, etc. Rather take too much than too little. I will ride with 2 bottles and something to eat if I feel hungry. Eat something at the waterpoints and refill bottles. Recovery drink at the finish is very important.

Take two bottles.

One containing your supplement of choice and the other water.

You will crave water at times.

Pack some Safari fruit squares , the sugar coated ones and keep them for a snack in between feed zones when you feel low or hungry.

Take a gel ,but purely as an emegency band aid when you are feeling super low with around 25 k's to the end of the stage.

Don't go ballistic on carbs ,try and consume as little carbohydrates as possible and be sure to have a high protein bar with you to help metabolise the carbs you need.

Drink when thirsty and then take an extra sip.

If you can't pee an hour after each stage, you are dehydrated.

What you should be more concerned about is the ability to ride well within yourself and your limits .

That will take you very far .

I would love to do this again... But the cost is getting ridiculous.

Anyone that's feeling super generous and wants to donate a solo entry to me, don't hesitate to contact me.

I will make good use of it.

I agree, one of the longer distances would have been much better prep for the joberg2c
