Too late! I'm going to hold you liable! :w00t:

May I ask why you ride alone? Have you not been able to find a group either?

Many reasons like:

- most people I have found that ride there have different starting times. I start when ever I get home from work (and that may vary also)

- people want to ride different sections at different speeds than what I want to. Sometimes I am fine with doing one line 5 times (like jump sections) and other days I want to incl the Delta hills a couple of times rather than to go around Emmerentia twice or so

But I think the biggest one is that I do not adapt well to a lot of people/groups because of things like: I do not find it easy to 'make conversation', it either happens or it doesn't. I do not 'kiss butt' or say something good just to get brownie points, I am blunt. I think a lot and thus I like my silent times, this might also be take up wrongly in groups. I find when I go riding alone that I notice/see more, and actually find it easier to interact with other randoms that also ride. I actually enjoy riding alone :)

if i lived closer i'd probably make use of the Spruit a lot more, it's definitely a good place to push yourself with all the bits where you can wander off and go play, however I would not ride there on my own. The last time i was there, even with a group of guys - when i got dropped and i simply lost sight of them around a corner, for those few seconds, when some guy suddenly appeared from around a bush and started walking towards me, i ***'d.

it takes just a few seconds and i rather not tempt fate. But Hayley i totally agree ,there's something really cathartic about solo rides, and while i enjoy riding with my mates, I enjoy going off on my own, but i'll only do that in places i perceive to be safe.

My better half is keen to ride with a group of ladies on the spruit. Will chat about it tonight and I will be happy to help organise to get it started.

I ride it alone. These days only the section from Emmarentia to Hurlingham. (Although the area after Fratellis when travelling North is becoming super doggy now too.)

Edit: I guess it also depends on the womans ability to sense danger. If something seems dodgy rather make that your sprinting section and get away before you become a target. Also, I do not take responsibility for me saying it is save to do so and then someone gets attacked.

Could she possibly join you one day? she is about 2km from frattelis in victory park

Cool, lets organise for a 08:00 start at Frattelis and do a loop around the Emmarentia.

First ride on Sat 5 July (we will be in PMB this weekend so cant make it, but if other ladies would like to start this Sat, then go for it)

All ladies welcome for an easy ride.

Depending on numbers and ability we might split into two groups. Newbies welcome.

The aim is for a social ladies ride.

We are a group of ladies who ride the Spruit every Thursday morning, from Fratelli's. Sometimes up to Emmarentia or even Water Tower, sometimes down to12th Avenue, Bryanston. We split into groups according to strength, but it is generally a social group, and we change venue occasionally to include Heia Safari, Thaba trails, Modderfontein, Cradle. (You may have noticed the pink spotted cougars out there....). We have agreed to keep the Thursday group 8 for 8:15 on trail, with alternative routes on other days. Join us with pleasure. You do need to let us know you will be there.

Hi everyone

i ride for VeloLife BMC and we have just opened our new VeloLife shop in rosebank (cnr jelicoe and jan smuts) so from this saturday we will be doing group rides from the shop. we will split the group to accommodate all levels such as the racing snakes and weekend warriors and everyone inbetween if necessary, aswell as we will have someone from the shop in every group to provide assistance if needed. this week will be a +- 2 hour ride in which we will go towards alberts farm and the botanical gardens and end off at the shop for coffee. in the following weeks we will have coffee, cakes and croissants for after the rides. the shop will also be open after the ride so you can have a look. their is secure parking at the shop if you want to leave your car while you ride. the address is 1 Jellicoe avn Rosebank.
