Hardtail vs dual

Hi guys. I am doing the bridge pioneer 7day multi-stage race in October. I need to know if I can do this race comfortably and efficiently on a hardtail. Or do I need a soft tail to get best results?

Thanks

I'm sure you can do the Pioneer on a hardtail, but I'm also sure that it won't be comfortable. Tough race boet. I'd go for a bit of softness at the back. Check what the pro's are riding.

26er just feels like im working harder.

Because you're new here (welcome!), and so just for 100% clarity's sake, Fandacious was joking...

I love the specialised bikes look and feel. But Giant seems to be cheaper. Any advice?

Giant is like the Toyota of bikes... Spez you gonna hoes when it comes to servicing those brains. They charge you neuro surgeon prices

I did the pioneer in 2012 on an anthem .It was my first more than 3 day event .I have since sold the frame and am now riding a SC tallboy and I have a highball also .I am realizing now what an exceptionally good frame an anthem is .It was my first FSB so I had nothing to compare it to .You can spend a lot more money ,but you won't get anything better to ride the CPT with .With regard to riding it on a HT .Yes ! if you weigh 60kg and do a lot of standing climbs and could be a pro if you had the time .No! bad idea if you are a mortal like the rest of us .If money was not an option there are so many great bikes out there like Cannondale, BMC, Cube, Scott, Santa Cruz ext .And if you need an image boost there is always Spez bling-works or a spez pimpjumper to try out .Ducking and covering my head !Hiding behind my wife !

Just test drive the two over a weekend. If you can't feel the difference of the Epic then go for the Anthem. If you can feel the difference of the Epic, does R500 a year to service the brain really matter?

Thanks for the words of wisdom. The budget is tight as I have many races and various events that I do ie. Ironman etc. So I was thinking buy a 10.5kg HT over cheap 12.5-13kg FS bike.

But you saying its almost impossible to do 7day event on a HT?

No, not impossible, but decide what other riding / races you'd like to do. Aiming for Ironman means time split between road cycling (on and off road) swimming (laps and open water) running (on and off road) and some gym work for conditioning. If a light weight bike is going to give you more pleasure than a slightly heavier bike that will have decent traction going up and down then you have your answer. There is no right or wrong here, it depends on your budget, priorities, skill-set and style of riding.
