The team was announced on the 11th June. We spoke to Lise at the Jock on the 19th July and they still had not got together to discuss who was riding for whom, and what the tactics were going to be let alone arranged to train together. At the very least, they had a month and a half to learn to ride as a team, and should probably been riding at the Jock as preparation. Respect to all the ladies, but sending 6 individuals to race as a team 8 days before the race was always going to be a bit iffy.

Apparently we have a squash player ranked 21st in the world and he wasn't even selected to go.. so shows you.. ass where is elbow.

Oh woman there is no pleasing everybody... some whinge when they don't send a team and the rest whinge when they send a team....

that's what the internet is for......we're all very happy with the result, especially since womens cycling is a bit 'down' locally (referring to teams/sponsors) so hopefully it helps things, was just a little sad to see the other teams riding like teams and us having a contender and some chasers.....who knows with more team support it could have been silver?

Anyhow. . Maybe they will learn from their mistakes. . I however am not optimistic that that will happen. .

I agree - 7 laps, 14odd km/lap, 6 riders. If they had all started together as a team, they could possibly have had each rider bury herself for 1 lap, and then drop out (which 4 of them did anyway), leaving Ash and An-Li together for the last 3 laps, and Ash a whole lot more rested to cover the last two laps. I'm no team manager, but if the Aussies and the English did it, why couldn't we?

Ashleigh rode a very smart race .She never tried to be the hero and used the other teams as support .The gold and silver were the best on the day and i don,t think having a full team as support would have helped .Our team would not have kept up with Pooley

Not sure if you are talking about Ashleigh or not, but she has a pro contract with the Hitec Products team, so I imagine it's that contract that is providing the finacial backing, not family money.

Ashleigh had a personal financial backer for many years, I believe they had a fall out end of last year and that nest egg has fallen away now. No

Pooley (team Eng) set that up brilliantly. . Shame she really deserved to medal.. I sommer cried with her.

Interesting route......wonder how this info played a role in the preparation of our cyclist - specificity of training (it seems the specific route was used a year earlier for national champs).

(Own attempt on Google Earth to determine route profile.....might be off a wee bit).

What level are the ladies, Ashleigh and the rest of the team compared to the elite batch or cat 2 in say the lights by linea league? Or is it more a case of racing against other ladies that have similar strength levels. Does it not help competing against men?

Have had dealings with other Sa sports and ladies team and sounds like very very similar situations.
