2008 Stumpjumper FSR with a 100mm fork?

Will it be that bad as a mess around bike just around Rietvlei and occasional 40-60k outrides?

What does it have on now?

If its to try out before buying a new fork then go for it

the 2008 model came with a 120mm fork right?

Dropping this to 100mm will steepen your head angle a degree or so, not ideal but ridable.

BB will also be lowered a little, not sure what is was to start with though..

If you can get hold of the geometry numbers for the frame I can recalculate the geometry based on a 100mm fork if you like.

Trend does seem to be to put on longer forks, especially on older frames, this gets you a slacker head and more travel up front, but depends on what riding you want it for I guess

Have been mulling over a similar idea, but a 26er,converted to a 27.5 with 140 mm upfront, kinda specifically for rietvlei and thaba . Just thrash it :-)

I think it's a cracking idea...at least you have groupset etc....I got bugger all. And on a strict budget. Been scouring the net to see what frames can handle the 27.5 at the back.

The plan is to use 27.5 wheels

I'm not bike technical, but I can tell you from a million questions answered about this point is as follows

27.5 on the correct frame for the correct geometry is what most answers will be,,,, most will give you the whole story of the design around the frame is wheel specific

Me I just like my bike, it came with the wheels it was designed with and I love riding it

But but but I like tinkering with stuff and I have enough 'normal' bikes in case I mess it up ????

I'd like to say I have enough normal bikes but alas I don't...but just want to build something . Maybe I should just buy some Lego and be done with it .
