I dunno - David George hid the fact that he was doing EPO - BS told 4*-54 he was using Testosterone - seems unfair that BS's punishment was worse. 30 months for BS versus 24 for George if memory serves...

Obviously, circumstantiality has nothing to do with degree of penalty

Rules are held up firmly

Rules are not help up firmly...

Nolan Hoffman got done for testosterone without telling SAIDS and got an 18 month ban....6 months off for "remorse" - surely BS gets a few bonus months for telling SAIDS before hand that he took drugs?

I think two things suck:

1) BS took performance enhancing drugs.

2) SAIDS went ahead and bust him knowing full well he was taking drugs.

Surely in some sane world SAIDS would have picked up on the word TESTOSTERONE at any one of the many forms BS filled in and told him to stop - and stopped him competing for a few months rather than ignoring it completely then busting him for the very drugs he told them he was taking?

Or sat him down and said - you can either take the drugs OR carrry on cycling professionally.

Or communicated with him on any level.

Any solution is better than what happened.

Dumb, dumber and dumberer - both BS and SAIDS. This case destroys the credibility of both parties.

Yip, questionable stuff

I meant rules are 'apparently' held firmly :-)

I agree with you 100% What I see here is a communication cock-up of massive proportions from both parties involved, not a deliberate attempt to cheat.

But also, it seems BS was way too quick to assume that he has permission to compete while taking testostorone, what do they say, assumption is the mother of all f ups.

So SAIDS is not reliable/consistent? Surely BS should have known that? Even more reason to be extra careful and follow the rules to the letter. (I am not saying that its all right that SAIDS is inconsistent. I am saying that that is unfortunately the status quo and pros need to take that into account.)

I hope that all the other pros and potential pros are paying attention and don't risk their careers/reputations/livelihoods by taking banned substances without first getting their TUEs approved (assuming that that is what happened and this whole story isn't just a cover-up, which is also plausible in the circumstances).

Don't forget back-markers and weekend warriors doing a 7 hour at the 94.7 on Sinucon to treat that last minute congestion... Those cheating bastards must get a TUE or face the full wrath of the powers that be too...

I don't see the relevance.

Are you saying BS is a back marker?

If anyone knew, then Stewart knew that SAIDS has absolutely zero responsibility or duty to alert him to anything. He will have been aware of their behaviour for many years, and therefore especially vigilant in dealing with them for the very reasons that have been raised in this thread - they have NOT been consistent or even fair in their doling out of penalties. If you as a professional know this, then how can Stewart's behaviour be explained? My view is that it is very suspicious, and stinks of classic intentional doping. The non sugar coated view is that BECAUSE of SAIDS historic erratic behaviour, he thought he could use this to his advantage. Their disorganisation perhaps gave him a gap that he thought he could use to compete while doping "legally" - sorry for you, pelly
