That was not the reply I hoped for  ^_^ but in that case, I had a real good training session today: did 51km of which around 35-40 with a head wind. Still enjoyed myself, it was a beautiful winter day: sunny and around 7°, perfect for cycling. I did it in 2h22', AVS 21,6km/h.

Not too bad for a beginner, right?

Don't let the prospect of wind put you off, please. Remember that on the windiest year of them all, 2010 I think it was, with it blowing 35knots an gusting stronger, over 25 000 riders still finished. How tough can it be? :)

Belgium how can you be a biking novice in a cycling country like that? Almost like growing up in Beijing/Delhi and never having learned to ride a bike.

By the way. We have this conversation about what the wind will do about one week before race day. Some of us freak out about it like clockwork.   :whistling:  Check in regurlary for updates but the advice in previous posts are spot on. The south-easter will blow.

LOL, obviously, I've been riding a bike since I was a child and I use my regular bike as a mode of transport as much as I can. But I'm a cycling novice on a road bike, that does feel a bit like learning how to ride al over again but I love it! I'm constantly checking the forecast to see when I can go riding again

(It's pouring rain at the moment and temp is around 0° :-( )

Well, with your current temperatures of 0 - 7 degrees, you shouldn't be worried about the wind, worry about the heat. If the wind is not blowing, it can easily get up to 30 degrees plus. Don't bring sunscreen, bring sunblock.

Welcome to SA. I hope you have a wonderful time.

Hi

Which transport company do u recommend to use to transport bikes to Cape Town?

Think I used Elliot's. It was the second or third option on the website.

Used the same last year. They have bike collection at the stadium, which is very convenient.

I couldn't do a second lap last year - plane tickets etc. This year I booked everything so that I will be sorted for a second round. As things stand my seeding is slipping into D rapidly and training is not on course due to life. Does anyone know whether there will be official invites for the second lap again? Up to what index were they given last year?

This was in the mail I got last year

You were selected based on the following criteria:

  • Riders must have a seeding index of approximately 23 or better.

Obviously I have no idea whether they will do it again this year, can't see any reason why not.
