Cop not charged with running someone down while texting!

Never mind that there are no criminal charges... That cop will be using all of his meagre salary to pay civil damages for the rest of his life. The family will likely sue to the State police too for wrongful death.

Lost income for COO and "prominant lawyer" probably = $ millions..

It seems the issue here is that cops in the US are lawfully permitted to use these electronic message devices in their cars (although, I'm sure that they can't use them negligently and in a way that endangers the public while driving).

The prosecutor probably felt there wasn't a strong enough case to lay crimanl charges (bearing in mind that there are different onuses for criminal and civil matters - "beyond reasonable doubt" vs "balance of probabilities". Not saying its right or wrong, just think that maybe there isn't a strong criminal case and there may be more than this story than Daily Mail portrays...

Regardless, it is clear that the cop was massively negligent and will more than likely go down in the civil trial and be paying out his arse for the rest of his life...

Had a similar incident regarding our Blue Light brigade if i remember correctly. Motor bike incident, but still close enough.

Seems South Africa is on a par with first world countries after all.

If it's within the parameters of the law, then by all means, no charges. However, some serious civil suits should be dealt with against the department for allowing such behavior.
