Mornin...

I urge to do a seach for the cyclesure vs thehub thread, read it from start to finish....might take a week.

You will get very valuable information form that thread....take this to the decision makers in your company and come up with a product that caters for this need. Believe it or not, price is not the most important thing when it comes to insurance...peace of mind...CLEAR communication...carries much more weight

Hi

There are a few of these. I would like to read the one you refer to. Can you point me in the right direction.

PS...a bit of proactiveness from your side will also go a long way

How about a monthly heatmap of hijackings on a map that will help us know about the hotspots and in turn less claims for you

win win...you sit with the data, might as well use it for something?

I still want to know what evidence there is of bikes being stolen/bikejacked to order.

Unfortunateley we will not divulge this information as we prefer to make use of this when we suspect this type of situation. I can say the situation we came across was from a cyclist that was offered a bike and told that he can be supplied any bike he wants to order at a price he could not refuse. The bike he was offered was stolen so we put two and two together.

Indeed

The hi-jacker was indeed Shebeen

hmm, I still don't think I was actually hijacking anything. I appreciate the information, the OP has confirmed that most of it is well known from anecdotal evidence anyway but it's good to hear it from their side of the fence.

but I can't be the only one who thinks that a careless insurer is about as useful as:

a blind bus driver

a midget lock

a surgeon with the yips

a fish with a bicycle

And I know he said he's not here to do business, but he's not piet pompies who works in the industry giving us useful info - he's using his company name as handle and logo as avatar. Therefore he represents the company. (It's up to Admin to decide whether or not he should be paying for it).

Morning In the event that you want to insure we are happy to refer you to a broker who does iCycle or speak to your broker.

and and and, like I said first up - it's great to get this sort of info to confirm what we already know. More detail would be lovely.

Yea, lets see if he bites on the hijack hotspot map...that will show us his true intention. Putting something like this up for us will also benefit them.

they have the data, just make it available.

"a cyclist"? That hardly reveals a trend, does it?

No, but they were told by a cyclist who had been told by a third party.

The two "tolds" cancel each hearsay out and become a trend.

Did you not do maths at school ?

They call it maths literacy these days, don't they?

Good morning

It's is obvious by the many negative remarks and sarcasm the post has drawn the we have not added any insight into what our primary post was intended to do.

It is clear that many members have had bad experiences with bike insurance or have the agenda of creating doubt among the many sincere and genuine reasons people belong to the Hub.

It is disappointing to see that some comments and responses are clearly put up to create controversy and we cannot be drawn in to tese debates

What was intended to be some thing that we thought would be valuable to the thousands of cyclists has become a forum for a few individuals that for what ever reason find it necessary to take the information and create controversy.

We have decided that imparting what we see as information that might help cyclist avoid situations we mentioned in the initial post has only allowed some individuals to either try discredit our post or simply draw attention to themselves.

To all the members that did have positive input we thank you unfortunately we feel that we cannot be drawn into debates as has happened on this forum. We are looking at alternative ways of communicating the type of information we posted so as to keep you informed.

We will not be responding on this particular posting any further.

I hope that our initial post helps those of you with a sincere reason for reading our post.

Regards

I quote myself from the cyclesure thread:

All I would like from insurance is the following:

1. Come physically see our bikes, take note of ALL the part specs because they are NOT standard issue off the floor bikes... insure accordingly.

2. I want full loss cover in case I get bike jacked on a coffee ride or crash in a race, replace everything that is broken or stolen.

3. My bike travels on a Thule roof rack, if the rack breaks and the bikes come off at 100km/h on the highway, pay me out for my bikes and broken roofrack.

4. If I park somewhere and someone steals the bikes from my roofrack, pay me out for their replacement value on the current spec of the bike that was seen.

5. The bikes live in a complex within a complex inside a garage with electric motor. If someone opens that garage door dont tell me it wasnt locked. If I wanted to get out my car to unlock a garage door, it wouldnt be electric.

6. If my bike gets nicked after an event, dont give me hassles asking if it was locked to an immovable object. Ive been bleeding out my eyes for 80km I dont carry a 5kg chain and lock in a pocket with my gels for the finish.

Im a simple oke, if my bike gets stolen or broken and I must claim... sort it out.

Dont give me stories of chains and locks required either for my roofrack.

I dont fall often and break things, but when I do......
