I have a Shimano 105 10sp..fairly new, was maybe thinking of going Ultrega 10sp... Whats your take?

105 is solid, there would be no gains IMO if you would go for ultegra other than a few grams.

I have a bike with the new 11-speed Ultegra 6800 groupset...it is a BIG improvement over the 6700 (IMO)...but for the same money from 105 to 6700 (10-speed) it would indeed be a better investment to go with better wheels...and you might even have some change left.

In the future you could look at the NEW 105 11-speed groupset (5800)...starting to push it's head out in the market and on newer bikes...it has the same technology as the Dura Ace 9000 and Ultegra 6800...just a few grams heavier and a different structure and material used on the different groupsets...AND the 5800 doesn't break the Bank.

The shifting on the NEW Shimano 11-speed groupsets are amazing (IMHO), especially the Front derailleur...short and quick shifting...when you change to another gear at the back derailleur, you only hear a "click" on the shifters in front...and MAYBE a crrr at back...but most of the times it's almost silent...that is just my take on the 6800 groupset on my bike...

But for now, stick to the newish 105 10-speed you have and get a set of new / better wheels...it will make a bigger difference than to change the groupset...

Well said, Cassie.

In terms of gear change and braking ability, the 11 speed is far superior to the 10, across the range. The front derailleur in particular is much better. Brakes are vastly better.

I've used all three ~ DA9000, Ultegra 6800 and 105 5800. DA is incredible, worth every cent imo. 6800 is damn good, very close to DA in performance, but with a bit more weight and a lot less bling. 5800 does what it's supposed to do, a bit clunky but still a big improvement on the 10 speed it replaces.

I was one of those people who said I would never change to 11, it was a waste of money etc ~ that was until I tried it. If you've got the cash, do it.

HI Guys

Is it worth moving from 10sp to 11sp? .

Regards

Worth it...from a cost perspective i dunno, from a functional perspective Yes

11 spd helps smooth out that little gap somewhere in the middle of the 10 spd cassette, you know that one where the one sprocket is a fraction to easy and the next one a fraction to hard to maintain a comfortable cadence.

If you are on a tight budget like most of us rather upgrade wheels (like Falco said) or something like the new 4iiii’s Power Meter.

BTW - "If you can't win on a 105 groupo you won't win with Ultegra or Dura Ace"

How is a power meter an upgrade to a bike? Does it improve shifting? Does it improve rolling? Does it improve braking? No, no and no again.

Definitley not an unpgrade to the bike, but a useful tool in "upgrading" the rider. :)

Rule #10 :whistling:
