Roadie, smile/greet DAMMIT!

I know it's not Friday yet but this has been bugging me the whole week. After starting training on Klapperkop Monday morning, and every other morning so far, we're normally there at around 6.15am, I noticed that most of the roadies, and some mtb riders just refuse to greet, nod or tell you to go away! Now I would understand that if you're busy setting a new land record up the hill that it's hard to speak with all the hard breathing but the people that I'm referring to are the ones chilling up the hill or freewheeling back down. Is this busy dying out? Or did everyone just get so competitive that they forget common decency?

I make a point of it to greet all cyclists and runners that I pass, in the end it's them that you have something in common with, even if it's just suffering up a hill together.

PS. I'm the guy on the black Merida DS saying hi to everyone

:clap:I'm the guy on the red roubaix or black green stumpy in the Cape saying hi and also, when on the road, suggesting riding abreast and chatting is dangerous so rather ride behind your mate/partner.

It's definitely not limited to roadies - MTB'ers are just as guilty.

Nevertheless, it's the same as everything else in life. You get the nice guys and the assh*les.

Those guys that go flying at 70kph on the jeeptrack, but opt for the chicken runs when they're up against obstacles on singletrack - those dirt-roadies?

I always give the slight helmet nod as to not disrupt my aerodynamics and maintain essential safety with both hands locked in the drops as my average speeds are quite high

This has been bugging me for a while as well..  I do find that when I'm on a trail that guys are more friendly and everyone greets..

When I am on my MTB on the road, MTBers will greet me, but not roadies and vice versa when I'm on my road bike.

Not sure why its like this, but I greet all nevertheless, if I see you are in a zone I will simply nod my head in your direction, otherwise a friendly "hello/morning/evening/howzit" is coming your way...

Yip them, full lycra...helmet with no visor...bottles only(never camelbaks)...carbon everything...bikes under 9,5kg's...tight shirts...tan lines...knows their W/kg number / FTP number / MMP number / ATL number / CTL number...owns a roadbike...knows what chapeau and allez means...can go on for hours about mont ventoux...likes white mtb shoes...counts calories...drinks wine instead of beer.

Know them well.

Other than that, do you greet others in the shopping mall as you walk past them or hoot at every motorist on the road?

:-P

I'm a very friendly guy... :D  :D and yes I do often greet random strangers if they seem like they might reciprocate or are in need of a greeting....

but no, not every one I cross paths with...

When I'm doing my laps at Klapperkop, I will only greet you once.

It's funny when you pass someone 5 times and they still want to greet you.

Like Mr Buys did a few times to me:

I was busy with interval training up to the actual fort, really pushing myself to extremes, and then this oke in full Scott kit comes casually flying pass me saying "Hi there". He was also busy with intervals or something.

He did this everytime he would blast past me, not even breaking a sweat, still the same "Hi there".

If I wasn't so tired and de-motivated I would've told him to *okkof after the 4th greeting.

I get what you're saying, but if you're out on the trails and pass a fellow rider (particularly from the front), acknowledging that person's existence isn't too difficult. Even if it's just one finger off the handlebar.

When I am on my roadbike I dont say to mtb'ers. Its a thing.

PS...roadies dont say hi, they lift a finger or maybe nod. Thats how they roll.

Lifting a finger would be quite a bit more than the average response I receive

Stop waiving at me when I try and get up there . I am there to cycle not meet and greed !!!!

Think of everyone waiving at you a supporters helping you on, if you concentrate that hard you might need it? :whistling:

Lol sometimes I do greet random people in malls. It's fun watching them try figure out who you are!

I sometimes even hold by breathe when I pass ridders, so that it sounds like I am not even hammering it when I pass them.

Sometimes I nod my head and lift my hand just off the STI , but if I am out on the bike I am probably seeing black dots.
