Worth watching, saw on Emirates, was one of the sports programmes available in air June/July.

Well, well, worth watching.

It's still on Emirates playlist, I watched it on a flight today. Good viewing for anyone interested in cycling

Includes a pretty grim and graphic reminder of Casartelli's death as well. Those were hardcore days.

I am big a fan of his, but cannot understand how he can be treated as such a hero and LA such a disgrace.

They both did the same thing. LA was stripped of his titles, however, Pantani, Riis, Ulrich all kept theirs.

They all cheated but LA cheated, destroyed peoples lives, sued and bribed his way though the system. Good riddence.

Eugene, if Sinamatella brought a movie about Lance to the big screen, I'd watch that too. As to why people might like Marco more than Lance...well, both came from humble beginnings; both used the sport to overcome that; both were hugely talented; both used PEDs. That's where the similarity ends. Marco didn't destroy lives, didn't pursue those who slighted him with the venom that Lance did. Marco didn't try claim that he was the face of a sport that was trying to rinse itself of the image of doping as Lance did. Lance took the lie to a whole new level. Lance made a remarkable comeback, and showed fortitude in doing so, and for that I have some respect for the man. But, let's not forget, his dabbling in PEDs could, and probably did, have played a huge part in the aggressive nature of the cancer he got.

When you accidentally trip and fall face down into a kilo of coke.

.... And rip a couple of basins and aircon units off the wall, on the way down...

They have re-opened the Marco Pantani case, and are investigating the possibility of murder.

All along his mother has been battling on her own, to get this case the importance it merits.

The people who are really interested in this case, should read up the information.

( lots of information on the web, but you need to read Italian )

Hopefully, we will know the truth.

If only it weren't ...

Saw a documentary on CNN on Sunday about Denmark. The happiest country in the world - and you know why? They aren't fussed about money and material possessions, preferring to focus on relationships. They pay tax at 56%, and smile. Also, more people cycle to work than drive to work.

Let me guess.......They don't get murdered at a rate of 2 per hour?  And they don't drive is such a manner that 2 people die in road accidents every hour of every day?

I'd be happy too

Something is wrong with the whole system.

ha how does dying of an overdose count as "accidental"?

And I agree, he shouldn't be celebrated if lance get treated the way he does. anyone who's watched THAT alp d huez record should be able to see he was doped to the gills! Yet he's a hero. That's a tad unfair.

What South Africans tend to forget is that Europe is Cycling MAD.

Take a standard 4x4 biltong vreter bull supporter.  Multiply that my factor 20 and you will get a cycling supporter in Europe.

Guys like Pantani, Indurain, Mercx.  They all come from very humble beginnings.  Most of them did not have training programs and computers etc.  They did went for rides.  They did it for the LOVE of cycling.  The passion.  Human like.

Lance changed that into a SCIENCE.  Took away the passion and made it robot like.

For that the Europeans do not have love.  They just see it as dominance in a sport fuelled by passion.

So why is Pantani / Ulright etc the heros?  Because humans have emotions and fail and falter and ask for forgiveness and have compassion.  Human qualities other people fall in love with.

Lance did not have that.

On the subject.
Very VERY sad if this film won't make it to Gauteng.  Even worse is that we as a 'small' cycling community in SA will most likely never get the opportunity to buy the DVD in 'n shop....

I have to disagree slightly. Yes he embraced more technology/science but that was everywhere at the time not just cycling (Same could be made of television and a more global audience). As for the riding Lance didn't just sit back like team sky and look at his SRM. He attacked, came back after crashes, had crazy handling skills, great tactician, very few other GC riders attack when they are leading the race. Hopped up on drugs or not he was exciting to watch
