Strava Cheating

I'm not fast enough for KOMs, need to be happy just beating PRs [emoji20]

I know this feeling....

Saw one segment a couple of weeks ago I rode - like 5:30.... then I saw the KOM is 1:30.... and thought.... just HOW is that possible.....  then I noticed that Arran was riding on the road alongside the mtb path next to the road... so clearly there are some flaws in it's accuracy... :)

My personal record down there is 112km/h.

Pity it was before Strava was invented. :whistling:

Going up that climb is a beeatch, especialy if you push it, as it is a 7km drag from the turn to where it kicks up for just on 2km.

The locals calls it "George" for obvious reasons.

Yowza! On an mtb? Even with rudi's on my eyes were watering so much I could hardly see. We do the loop around past the canopy tours and meet the long uphill drag half way.

This morning I set a new PR on a sector, but I was on a tandem instead of my normal bike. Considering I don't usually ride a tandem, would that be considered "cheating"?  :whistling:

I've had 3 rides flagged and legitimately so.

On 2 rides I forgot to Pause Strava while we were shuttling Table mountain and a track in Fish Hoek And one ride in France I was on a bus between Morzine and Les Gets. I marked them all as private. Problem solved.

No ways, was on skinny wheels.

We came from Buffelspoort side, and had a "bit" of a tailwind. :whistling:

I was resisting Strava for a long time but started using it end of May this year.  It has given me some goals to chase and enjoy using.  If someone is going to cheat on Strava then it is his problem.  Come race day they are normally dealt with quite quickly in a bunch as they can't cheat (except doping) anymore.

I follow only a few guys but I get an idea of what effort is required to stick with some of the fast guys. The guys I am following I am pretty sure are not cheats.

I received a message this morning that I had completed a Strava Challenge. No big deal, but I happened to look at the winners stats and worked out that in order to achieve what he did, he would have had to ride and average of 157km/day for 20 days straight.

Unless he took part in the Vuelta, there is simply no way you can do that. For what?

I don't get it.

I don't care if people want to cheat on Strava (they have to like what they see in the mirror every morning, not me), but it's almost on a South African politico scale: So what if they catch me! They can do nothing!

Check out Durianrider. He's a vegan and people were saying that his diet is not sustainable in terms of being a competitive athlete so the crazy bastard did over 6000km in January just to prove a point. That's +- 200km every day for the month.

His biggest ride is 568km where he rode from Adelaide to the Victoria border and back in 21 hours. He documented it on his youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CE2FaEw48XI&list=UU_K0S2GbXYI9Fc77d6oRE7w

Like I say...crazy bastard.

Strava can drop you in deep doodoo... Spotted a guy that did 180km/h on the N1.  Flagged his ride.  The ride was on Meiring Naude in Pretoria.  And saw a few segments in Pretoria with the name, don't come cheat here with your car...

Strava has finally hit sabie… imagine my shock to find out there some fast times around these mountains. claimed my first KOM only to have it stolen by owen hannie… (perhaps time i take up another sport) but that aside i did a ride of roughly 290km, and when i uploaded it to strava it said 559km? is there some way to crop out the sections that i did not do so the ride is the actual distance i did? Thanks.. maybe a stupid question dont even know if that is possible? but this kind of technology is new in sabie so be gentle with me..
