Hi guys

where is the correct position for cleat on shoes and does a certain shoe make a difference. Feet sometimes seem to go numb have changed and it seems to be better but not perfect.

I was speaking to a friend of mine, about the same issue and he indicated that perhaps I should try and change the inner sole of my shoe.  It's got something to do with the angle that your foot falls when you pedal and that causes pressure on the nerves and causes the numbness.

I'm sure that the guys that did your bike set-up would be able to point you in the right direction for this.  If not, speak to the shoe suppliers and see if they are able to point you in the right direction.

Cleat position, shoe make and size, sole stiffness, etc even sock thickness (yes, really) all play a role.

Talk to a professional fitter like the guys at Cyclefit.

A tip for when you have found your perfect cleat position. Take a sharp instrument and scratch the outline of the cleat on your shoe soles. Then when you replace cleats, you have your perfect cleat position recorded. An out of position cleat can make cycling horrible, especially if you are used to that cleat position.

I had my cleats set up when Cyclefit did a complete setup of my bike. They recommended new shoes but my budget didn't allow at the time. I have neat save enough so will be buying soon. So do I have to go back to position the cleats correctly or do I measure position on current shoes and apply same on new shoes noting the "design and shape" of soles will be different?

New shoes = new cleats. I hold my current shoe with cleats on sole to sole with the new shoes to get an idea. Then a ride with tools in order to do minor settings. I have four pairs of shoes, set ups are so identical that I cannot tell the diffence. They just click in.

I had same problem with my feet going numb and aching to the point that i had to stop peddling after about 15km.

I went to see a padiatrist who made up inners according to my feet.

All the pains and numbness has gone.

Plus, depending on what med aid u on, they will pay.

I might brave the flat side in the near future

Been riding with cleats for two years, changed to flats about 2 months ago. Brings out the fun factor when riding.
