Semantics really, the same guys doing the actual work.

maybe, but not sure if everyone here or on the trails knew that mto = cape pine, too many parties involved already so good to know that two of them are the same. I preferred the MTO name(stands for Mountains To Oceans)

Called Cape Pine and they gave me a number that was answered as MTO.

The info still applies though.

I suppose we're all going to ride the 'argus' in march!

I forgot to mention that Mr Thomson said that once a compartment has been harvested, they hand it back to San Parks.

He was quite adamant that MTO inform San Parks in advance about impending harvesting. I can't imagine that they can decide ad hoc to harvest an area. It would take a considerable amount of planning (assigning crews and vehicles, getting trucks to come and collect logs, etc).

Odd, I spoke to the guys on the ground 3 weeks ago and according to them, they were not going further than the two compartments they were currently clearing.

Oh, well, never a dull moment in Tokai. Glad Aubrey finally sent the schedule.. last week

Ask Sandra to make the schedule public. At least then everyone's on the same page.

Plus, when a compartment with trails in it is harvested, riders can can make alternative arrangements and ride elsewhere.

..........Things to consider is:

The youngest age for an activity permit.

Youngest age for participation in MTB.

.............

So, why not make pregnant mtbikers pay extra, it's the logical thing to do! And guys with beer bellies........oh, wait a bit, maybe we should rethink this a little.... :D

IIRC, MTO no longer exists, now known as Cape Pine (but apparently yankee pine would be more fitting)

The little tags they put on logs say MTO :-) Saw them Saturday last.

Tactical blunder putting in the person's email address in there. Someone might spam her inbox with complaints....... Not that I'd ever suggest such a thing.

Done. Almost busy with a letter to the press too. So gatvol.

I am so glad I crossed over the curtain to the Northern Burbs!!!

I really feel sorry for you guys, especially the ones doing the hard work. My R600 goes to the Tygerberg mountain club and they spend it on the trails, and the trails are awesome.

Yes we have to be nice to the farm owners, but at least they are people!!!!

Good luck guys I really hope you can get somewhere with this. I have cycled a few times in Tokai, but now i will think a bit harder about it, one I dont like getting ripped off and two I know the money is not getting used to make the trails!

Some info..

FG is only being logged in 2015 (still to be approved) but the area in question meets the trail on the furthest corner affecting about 10m where the trees have fallen onto the track. I've just walked the trail and see it is blocked by debris, the agreement we have with CP is that they will clear the trail. (Confirmation of the cleared trail just arrived.)

As far as risk to riders, the trail was closed for the duration of the logging, candy tape demarcating the work area is still visible on the trees.

Re notice: harvesting maps were put up in March 2014 at the start of the MTB trail in the Arboretum, the Tokai picnic site, Wild Card Sales Office as well as Silvermine Gate and at the MTB parking in Silvermine.

Had I been on top of the timing I probably would have sent out a notice to stay clear of this trail over the weekend, will need to be sharper in the future. Apologies to all affected by the closure.

That's very interesting, are the maps still there?

I finally managed to snap a picture of one of those fairies that keeps the trail open - still had the chainsaw in his hand!
