I saw a tweet this morning re BMW connected drive and the fact that you can check Twitter and Facebook from the screen..

Not sure of the details, or if you need to be stationary to be able to open and update via the system, but it just seems crazy.. motorist on their cellphones are causing more and more accidents, now they are bringing the tech into cars, which is a bigger distraction..?

It doesn't work if you're not fully stationary.

That, and the display itself is very limited. A bit pointless.

One ConnectedDrive feature that I *do* like (but don't have in my car) is the ability to remotely switch on your aircon and lights, or flash them to help you locate your beemer in dark spots.

Basically if you buy a brick or a spade these days and it doesn't come with built in twitter and Facebook you know you get fobbed off with last years model!!

there was a thing on 567 about the traffic feature.

something about it links in to local traffic reports and recommends alternative routes

does it actually work ?

Sorry but why the f would you want to send a tweet or fb from your car! Maybe bmw should be investing money into taking people away from their phone by developing things to allow for text readout and voice driven response. people aren'tgoing to stop doing it..so rather make it safer.

What about also incorporating that technology from that Australian ad...off too find it

There we go Samsung S-Drive:

I tweeted this to mtn and Vodacom and heard nothing...this is what we need in this country.. And should be standard with all contracts...not some stupid thing that allows you to send a tweet. Never going to buy a bmw now...oh that's right..I never was

And then there is that ad where the BMW driver panics ...seeing all the lights behind him ...not realizing that its a group of cyclists...then presses the "panic"button in the car and when the BMW service replies ..he answers and says "not tho worry the PROBLEM rode off " or something to that effect ....the point is ...we Cyclist are seen as PROBLEM ...a threat ....Thank-you BMW ...

That's already avail from Garmin or TomTom and think iPhones may have that feature, they basically aggregate the movements of people in realtime traffic that have connected devices and use that data plus algorithms to determine the traffic is more boxed in one place than another and then automatically reroute you on the least congested route.

+1

I use Google Maps - because it is integrated with the Waze databse it shows the Waze updates (accidents, traffic congestion, etc.) to allow for auto redirecting. Unfortunately you cannot report these through Google Maps.

That's why I am looking forward to the new gen cars which will feature Android Auto. This will be available in almost every car (expect BMW  ) but they have that Apple drive thingy?
