I wonder why Froome sprinted for the line. He could have rolled in on Quintana's wheel, perhaps given him a pat on the back as they rolled over the finish.

All in the name of marginal gains

That would've been classy, Christie

IMO Froome has in the past been criticized so much for riding according to his power meter

Well he clearly has been working on his acceleration and is now responding to those critics by trying to be more exciting.

EDIT: A pat on the back at this stage would not go down well with many "fans" or some of the contenders

It would best be reserved for the last day when the dust has settled and the overall classification has been finally decided

“I just time trialled the last climb, I just did my own pace...I didn’t think about the victory, just about getting up it as fast as I could. That pacing probably won it for me.”

“You get here and you look at the riders…the level is so high and it is so hard to get in the breakaway. But the team just supported me, keeping me calm in the first week. It is great to get this win for them..."

1 or 2 seconds gained on Quintanna.

The Alpes await and today was just a small preview of what Quintanna has planned, every second counts even if you have a comfy 3min lead.

And as a non Froome fan, I hope he has burnt his matches Swiss. And next Sunday, we can have a lekker chat about the race.

The better question would be, have Sky burnt too many Thomas and Porte matches

Week 3 is gonna be crazy climbing in the Alps.

I reckon there's more drama to come in the top 5.

As well as Froome, a number of other riders have reported abuse by some spectators. Luke Rowe says someone spat at him while Rohan Dennis took to twitter to say he'd been hit by someone. In 2013 Mark Cavendish was subjected to the same thing Froome endured today.

No matter the dislike for opposition riders or competitors, no disrespectful, insulting, disgraceful or dehumanizing behaviour of fans so be tolerated by any cyclists. A stand should be taken by the entire UCI(unscrupulous idiots) and the current group of cycling teams and voice their objections to be treated in such vile manners and treatment of cyclists. What can be expected next?

TDF brings France millions of francs/euros to their country. They should bloody honour our people we send to their bloody tour. If they keep behaving in such disgusting manners then steps should be put in place which can even "include" boycotting the TDF as great as it is.

Between the heat and the wounds, I expect a tough day.. I didn’t sleep well last night, and I woke up a few times from the pain. I hope to have better days ahead.”

Peraud, who took about 30 mins to get kitted with all the bandages and eina

If there is any one more deserving than Froome for yellow its Quintana and should anything happen to Froome he will be the rider I will be supporting, least it's Contador but maybe next weeks mountain stages we will see some of this flair I keep reading about.
