First waterpoint is just goooey energy stuff - can safely ride past it.

Second waterpoint has snacks, and your boxes. And Coke.

Third waterpoint has sosaties and potatoes, and your boxes. And Coke.

Fourth waterpoint has life saving soup and bread. And your boxes. And Coke.

Fifth waterpoint has your support vehicle, possibly snacks. And Coke.

Sixth waterpoint has jaffles. Super tasty jaffles. Hot Chocolate, tea, coffee, burgers. And your support vehicle. And Coke.

Finish line has a Spur burger and chips. Your support vehicle. And Beer.

Your support vehicle is there to provide a shoulder to cry on, a brain to get things done, and the temptation to take a quite nap to ease the pain and suffering. Your support vehicle is also there to stroke your ego, offer replacement legs, buy super tasty jaffles, or in extreme circumstances, tell you to HTFU and stop being a pansy, and pedal your bike

I didn't realise Luca Paolini was coming out to ride!!!

Will it be safe to assume there will thus be a water point / some food every 30 km? (will be my first one, and don't want to "over pack" / carry my own food if not need to.

According to the "menu" and the total 230km the checkpoints will be approximately 38km apart, but how far apart they really is I guess one will be able to get an idea when looking at the route profile on the Baviaans website.

Edit post: According to route profile Vero's 52,2km, Geelhoutbos 104,1km, Smitskraal 123.4km, Bergplaas 140km, Komdomo 167,5km, Zuurbron 200,6km.

Riding Baviaans under 10 hours is possible, although probably a little unlikely (no offence).

Two Mio Cyclo 505 computers? 2 iPhones? 1 Computer + 1 iPhone and merge the GPX files? I can send you mine (If I don't get any KOMS).

No offense taken, I am definitely not going to make 10hrs. I didn't know that you could merge files. A friend borrowed me his powerbank & at this stage I will easily make 15-16hrs with that. So hope to do it within that time.

Ok we rode in from Patensie this morning,no worries boys the water is not too bad and the road is in good condition after all the rain.

the MAC is fine the concrete strips are fine.

The water at Smitskraal will be long and deep as the river is flowing strongly, but 2 weeks to go it will be fine.

Enjoy

Realistically the menu only applies if you're fast enough to make it to the checkpoint before everything gets finished.

There's always plenty of roosterbrood at Chkpt 1, I'm yet to see a single marshmallow at chkpt 2, Chkpt 3 was great in earlier years, but my last attempt they had run out of most of the food by the time we got there.... which is very demoralizing because one really looks forward to a decent hot meal when one has been munching on bananas and energy bars all day. Chkpt 4 always has soup but I prefer to give it a miss. Chkpt 5 has always had chip rolls when I've been there..... but again chkpt 6 has invariably run out of jaffles by the time we arrive.

The moral of the story is that you're ok if you're a front to mid-pack rider, but if you're a back of the packer like me, rather send your own food ahead in your boxes than risk going without.

Sad but true, I've had the exact same experience both times.

Hi all,

For the first time this year, there will be a market day the day before the event. (We ride the TB every year, going for our 3rd year, this year.)

We are planning on selling our enamel mugs and glasses at the market day, we are trying to gauge interest in the mugs for planning purposes and also, if so desired, we could add team names (pre-ordered). I have attached a few samples of our mugs but we will have many different designs on the day.

Thank you,

Des
