The Cannondale should still be a full sus... there's a pivot point where the chainstay connects to the seat tube.

The Moots on the other hand is welded in the same area, relying on frame flex and the give provided by the squishy bit at the seat stay - seat tube junction...

NOW there is, but the earlier ones relied on flex in the carbon chainstays to allow the movement in the rear triangle. So yes, it was a soft tail, but is not any longer.

Yeah. Aware of that. Refering to the one in the pic.

Was there a 29r soft tail? I knew the 26" Scalpel was...

I think it was changed when they moved to 29. May be that the slight increase in flex in the longer chainstays was just a bit much for the new frame. That or reduced manufacturing costs cos that chainstay must have been a huge cost item

That's the 2012 one, still a ST I think... the only bearings are in the linkage at the top of the seatstay.

The newer ones have pivots though...

Speeking as a relative newb I never even knew you did get a 'soft tail' bicycle, always thought that people used this term uninformativly to describe a dual-sus as this is the description for certain motorcycles(Harley's/Choppers).
