NOW there is, but the earlier ones relied on flex in the carbon chainstays to allow the movement in the rear triangle. So yes, it was a soft tail, but is not any longer.

It still had a linkage in the top where the seat stay met with the seat tube, it was a pig to ride compared to my KHS ST.

Yeah, I remember that. Saw one today, in fact.

As I recall, they wanted to get the frame to be as stiff as a hardtail, but with a bit of squish if it got past a certain point. I think, however, that all they created was a complex hardtail with more things that could go KABOOM

This is getting very complicated.  Lets keep it simple.  The more the bike goes squish when you sit on the saddle, the less likely it is to aggravate your hemorrhoids on a long ride.  You get bouncy bikes and not bouncy bikes. Easy Peasy

You would have a really *** ride.

This weekend reminded me why I replaced the rigid fork on my Ritchey with a good old SID. I thought i'd give the rigid fork another try, but hell I hated it again.

Everything, even Jenna Jameson, becomes a *** ride if you fit a rigid fork. It is no surprise that front suspension was the first enhancement to early MTBs...

How do you fork if it's not rigid?
