i think she knows just what she needs to do...Grant is also still kipping too

I think none of these athletes know exactly what to do......survival is where they are at......I sincerely hope that her and Grant aren't doing this as a "team" ......he has the ability to go hard for long.......

Don't discount Tim... He is a hardened RASA racer and is very used to sleep depravation as long as his stomach holds up.

He runs a dynamo light so no battery stops and is not afraid to go for it.

As to the changeing of bibs/shirt etc, I assure you that wearing the same clothes for 3 days is really not an issue. On Freedom Challenge I wore the same bib/shirt combo for a lot more than that without a care in the world!

The last 300km will start getting interesting. The pace will drop off and/or become erratic while people visit all sorts of personal hells and fight sleep monsters.

I am starting to wish I had signed up!

Chris should win if he does not suffer an mechanical breakdown. He's done the distance a few time this year already, he knows how to pace himself and have a lot of experience with ultra distance events. GO CHRIS!!!

shoooeeee weee

ok so planning starts - these guys seem to be carrying very little.

i am planning on using all 5 days - so maybe a spare bar of clothes as a half way pick me upper ?

is a dynamo really necessary ? surely you will not need to run your lights on full power ?

I recall there was a big debate about Dyno vs Batt power not to long ago . I did a lot of research on the Dyno setup before my RASA attempt and then took the battery route . And yes you don't need your light on full power most of the time .

I think for guys 'cruising' a battery light is absolutely perfect. The beauty of a dynamo is that you never have to worry about it. Batteries go flat and when one is exhausted, sleep deprived and needing to carry on, any stop can mean a shift in momentum or even invite a nap.

Also, have you ever tried to use your motor skills after 48hrs of non stop exertion?

Simple tasks become very tricky.

A fit and forget light that also provides a charging station for anything with a USB cable. I certainly know I wouldn't swap mine for anything.

Essential, no, but it does make a difference once you have it

don't know him at all. Is he a road long distance guy or mtb too.

Also he's been out alone for a while now. Don't discount the value of loose partnerships (draft legal, right?). There will be some sections where this will come in handy

It would be a bit sad if people decide to use drafting since it's not allowed . But we all know that once a group forms it gets very difficult to not draft . I drafted a herd of cows just before Hoffmeyer .

It is a MTB race , not ?

The million dollar version was branded as one "toughest mountain bike race on earth".

Currently it is branded as "toughest race on earth".

Horses for courses to be competitive.

Just to be clear - I don't care either way. This thing must be bloody tough and I'm absolutely hooked to my tracker screen.

My planning also started for next year - a GS spectator road trip though.
