ive done small 24 hours for fun nothing serious, all i say is when i tried to sleep my body laughed at me,,,too much energy goodies, too much adrenaline, so i wash up change kit and go play, otherwise i tend to just lie there going "you got to sleep,,,,you got to ride,,you got to sleep"

was thinking it through in trying to figure out how to train for something like this.

I mean desert dash was done in 2009, and that was done with 3 hrs to spare.

As you all know, Mr Back Marker, just in front of the wagon.

I am thinking more towards 250km/24hrs. Take off 5 hrs as a "proper" rest, add in two hours for rest at food stations, photo stops, swimming stops etc that leaves a 17hr day. Add in an extra hour for navigation issues then...

250/16 = 15.6 it up to to 16 km/hr.

Previous experience has shown that I can ride my mtn bike at 15 - 16 km/hr for many many hours on end no worries.

Do you guys think this is a good number to aim for over the course of 4 days ?

So Grant has done 796 km in about 48 hours total time. Average speed incl stops......about 16,6km/h. Special

The best thing the race organizers have done is have good satellite tracking. The tracking is creating more interest than marketing/TV ever could.

Positives:

- Good tracking

- Tough route

- Tough conditions

Negatives:

- Little feedback to followers via twitter / bulitin updates on the website.

- Perhaps employ a journalist like Nic Lamond to report on the riding, what riders said after going the wrong way etc.Nic would love to ride up and down on those roads on a GS or Husky to get the scoop.

Unknowns:

- Is there room for the event to evolve ito Strategy? I remember a reality show called Big Brother that died after the first season due to the fact that strategy did not evolve for contestants and it then became boring. I hope this is different.

- Scope to alter the route annually / reverse it on alternate years?

True that would be great for spectators but would also give racers keeping track of things some intel on the other riders.

As long as everyone in contention gets reported on equally its in no-one's favour.
