So that's it.. done and dusted.

Well done to each and everyone of them... huge respect

And to those that had to abandon.. hardlines guys, to even attempt that takes a huge amount of courage..

Couple of quick thoughts from my side for what its worth.

John Ntuli is the type of athlete which epitomises this type of exploit - humble, resolute and bloody determined. I drove though from Cape Town to see him up BKloof and finish in a dry dusty field at the bottom of the Diemersfontein Estate, no family, no mentor, no welcome drink, no hashtag sponsor, no Instagram, no sound system - no need for all that - just an exhausted, dust caked, barely able to talk modern day gladiator who pushed out some very big boundaries. (I couldnt help compare it to the redbulllionheart happening on lions head at the same time and think to myself I am glad I went to see John finish)

Alex Harris has now earned his stripes as an event organiser - frankly the $1m was an attempt to buy his way into the big leagues and in my view didn't do justice to his dream - his dream was achieved in the lowest key event - but in doing so he created a race with soul, he now has something to work with and given his ability to achieve, I suspect he will succeed. Again, in my opinion - tone down the "greatest, toughest", etc Erik Vermeulen's pics will sell your event. Treat it with care, keep its soul.

The biggest factor to me will be the heat - I see Mike Woolnough recorded 51 degrees, that's like riding into a hairdryer on full heat. I understand most of the health issues were due to this. It will define the race and so it should be.

Lastly, Epic vs Freedom Challenge vs Munga - who cares! as long as you are riding your bike - I am sure anyone riding any of those would agree.

You can never compare Munga - RASA and Epic (if you must ) . Totally different races , the only common thing is that there is a bicycle somewhere  . Epic is a stage race where you get pampered etc .

Guys and girls...It has been an awesome 5 days following this race with you on here...from posts at 3 or 4 in the morning to after midnight in the night - it epitomises how this race captivated us and pulled us in like we were out there with them (from the safety of our air-conditioned offices). I had an absolute blast and I hope you did too!

see you next year (in my air-conditioned office)

Love this pic...

Epitomises why I just cannot justify moving overseas.

Cue Johnny Cleggs' Great Heart and I get all warm and fuzzy inside...
